Weekly Photo Challenge: Object

DSCF5803

Good morning from a wet Hastings.  This wet weather is supposed to be around all weekend so it is a great time to sort out my photos.

The Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Object

This is an ornament of mine that I placed in front of a mirror.  I was just playing around with composition and was intrigued by the reflection of the girl feeding the swans.

Here are some other great posts.

A Photo a Week Challenge: The Eyes Have it.

DSCF0058

Good evening from a cloudy Hastings.

While I was at my parent’s house today I chased their cat Missy around the house, trying to get some decent photos.  It was hard to get decent photos as the light was bad and I was avoiding the flash.  This first photo was when we arrived.  She was quite happy for me to take her photo.

DSCF0193

This second photo shows her patience with me was growing thin.  The eyes are turning black.  It was like she knew what I was doing but she was in control.  Not me.

Anyway here are some great posts to check out.

Look Up, Look Down Challenge: Week 24

DSCF2436

Good morning from a cloudy Hastings.

For this weeks challenge I am just looking up.  This is the bandstand right in the centre of the CBD of Hastings.  My daughter and I went hunting for photos one night and I found this.  Actually it has obviously been there for some time but this was the first time I had really had a good look at it.

DSCF2430

DSCF2443

I like the way the silhouettes of the design really showed up.  This has a native american feel to it but it also has the Maori koru as well. Below shows the distinctive koru – the arrow shape up the top.

As you can see I had fun with the editing.

A lingering Look at Windows: Week 5 Lines and textures.

DSCF8013

DSCF8020

For this week’s entry I haven’t strayed far from home.  These have all been taken around my home at night time to catch the golden glow.  I have been fascinated with the lines of the venetian blinds contrasting with the view through the window in the last photo.  There are so many lines going in different directions.

I was also fascinated by the contrast of the textured window pane against the hard lines of the blinds.

Cee’s Black and White Challenge: the back of things.

DSCF1663DSCF1656

Good evening from a coolish Hastings.

This week the  black and white challenge by Cee’s Photography is the back of things.

I was searching for another photo of the back of my husbands classic car, but as usual I didn’t find it (no doubt I will find it when I don’t need it – Murphy’s Law.) But I found these photos of the backs of roses and another flower that I am not too sure about.

Edited with Colour Stroke and FX Photostudio Pro.

Here are a couple of other great blogs to check out in this challenge.

A Word in your Ear: Context – The A & P Show, Hastings 2013

DSCF0580

Good morning from a sunny Hastings.  I hope everyone is keeping warm or cool wherever they may be with this crazy weather we are having at the moment.

This week’s challenge byA Word in Your Ear is context.  Normally I don’t show photos of people but decided that this was appropriate for this challenge.  These photos were taken last October at our annual local produce show which we call the A & P show – Agricultural and Pastoral/Produce show.  This is a typical quintessential New Zealand image above.  Hunky young men in black singlets and gumboots or big boots building fences in a competition.

DSCF0583DSCF0587

Then walking around we come across some alpacas –

DSCF0635

Finally I found this man and his son very intent on videoing the actions of this machine cutting up large logs of wood for firewood.

DSCF0596

They stood there for quite some time, totally engrossed in the machine.

Sonel’s Corner Photo Editing Challenge. : Feathers

DSCF9972DSCF9972 1

Good evening from a cooler Hastings.

This weeks challenge by Sonel’s Corner Photo-Editing Challenge is feathers.  I knew this was coming up but didn’t really have any feather photos as such.  Only loads of photos of ducks and birds.  But I wanted something different.  The other day I opened up the egg carton to get some eggs out for dinner and guess what I found.  That’s right. A beautiful feather.  So dinner was delayed just so that I could take some photos.  I don’t normally do still life but it was fun to see how many different ways I could take photos of a single hens feather.

So here they are:

DSCF0003DSCF0003.1

DSCF9995DSCF9995.1

DSCF9999DSCF9999.1

DSCF9980DSCF9980.1

They have all been edited with GIMP for a cartoon affect just to bring out the details and textures a bit more before I headed to FX Photostudio Pro for the final editing and then Photoshop to add the copyright.  I just tried out different affects for the different looks.

I just loved seeing the other posts for this challenge.  There is definitely a Hitchcock feel to some of them which is fun.  So here are some of the other posts for this challenge:

Walk a 100 Steps and take a new photo; Michelle’s Weekly Pet Challenge Week 21

DSCF7337DSCF7333

DSCF7336DSCF7343 1

Good morning from a sunny but cool Hastings.  For those out there suffering from heat waves and polar vortexes keep cool, warm and safe.

This is a different challenge by Cee’s Photography.  Actually I have cheated and this was taken just after Christmas.  I would imagine this adorable kitten was a Christmas Present judging by the red collar.  This is was just a few houses down the street taken on a day with more energy.  It was sooooo cute and adorable.  It was so much fun just watching it play.

So I can catch up with two challenges with this.  The other being Michelle’s Pet Challenge at Hope* the happy hugger.

Firstly here are some great blogs for Cee’s photo challenge.
