A photo a week Challenge: Red

My last post this morning is for Nancy’s challenge at nancy merrill photography.  This week we are asked to show red, either as a main colour or accent.  This first photo is a red pohutakawa – I dare anyone to try and pronounce this.  It is a native to New Zealand and is called a Kiwi Christmas Tree as it usually flowers around Christmas time and being a traditional colour for that time.

My second photo is of a red sunset.  We do have the most glorious technicolour sunrises and sunsets and this one was particularly red.

PS – I must look at the movie The Sixth Sense again.

Thanks for visiting.

A Word a Week: Frame

This weeks word of the week by Sue at A Word in Your Ear is frame.

These photos were taken just about 20 minutes ago when I noticed a golden glow just coming through the fog.  So of course I rushed out to take photos.  The fog meant that I could see the sun coming up.  Once it started to peep through it actually came up rather quickly.

Here are a couple of other photos for this challenge.

I love the way that nature provides the perfect frames.

Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge: Week 1

Sepia tap

Here is another great challenge by Cee at Cee’s Photography.  It is a great chance to dig out those photos that don’t belong  to any particular theme.

These three photos were taken at the A & P show and show the quirkiness of New Zealanders.

This final photo below shows the oddity of nature in this seed head.

A Lingering Look at Windows: Week 9 – Art Deco – Look Up, Look Down

Good morning from a foggy Hastings.

Where is the time going.  We are up to week 9 for Dawn’s challenge  for The Day After. As some of the photos are looking up at windows they can also go for Debbie’s challenge at Travel with Intent – Look Up, Look Down Week 28,

Continuing with my Art Deco theme this week I am focusing on the windows in the Art Deco centre of Napier.  They are so decorative and colourful.  I edited these with the Pacific Filter in the FX Photostudio Pro as I wanted to get a vintage  feel to them, appropriate to the Art Deco era. But also they remind me of the colours of Miami when I visited there 20 years ago.

There are quite a few.  It was a matter of where to start and when to stop.  It is a photographers paradise.

Thanks for visiting and you can find out more about this challenge at Dawn’s blog here

Cee’s Black and White Challenge: Man Made Objects.

Good evening from a muggy Hastings.

Time for Cee’s challenge at Cee’s Photography.  This week is all about man made objects.  Since I have been focusing on Art Deco this week I thought about some of the detail that can be found on the buildings in Napier.

The first image has the bonus of a large Imperial Chryslar from the early 60’s.  Usually Hubby is very knowledgable about early classic cars, but this one had him stumped.  It is about 30 years out of date compared to the buildings.

These have been edited using Snapseed and ColourStrokes.  I am not sure how I did it but when I was adding my watermark I noticed the soft focus on the second and third image.  I thought about editing the images again but somehow I like the contrast of the softness against the hard lines of the buildings.
