Phoneography and Sunday Stills: Urban Landscape
Good morning from a very chilly Hastings morning.
This week the challenge by Sally is the challengers choice – from Abstraction, Animals, Architecture, Food Photography, Night Photography, Objects, Portraiture, Still Life, Street Photography, and Travel.
Ed has asked us in his challenge for black and white landscapes
So I have joined the two challenges today with this urban landscape in black and white.
It is a view from the third floor of our local hospital – actually the only big hospital in Hawke’s Bay, here in Hastings. I was visiting my father in hospital last March when I had to get out my phone and take photos. It was a lovely day and the view was amazing. There are no high rise buildings in Hastings, only one level bungalows as they would be called overseas. In the distances are our ranges which get covered in snow in the winter. That is as far as I like to get to snow.
So that is my home town.
The graininess at the top is the dirty window – I do miss my Mac for the processing.

Cee’s Oddball Challenge: Week 17
Good morning from a cool frosty Hastings.
Another week has gone and it is time for Cee’s Oddball Challenge. I have loved seeing other posts, for there completely off beat photos. So here is my photo for this week. In February I had to take my mother to the doctor. She wouldn’t let me come in with her so I sat in a hot car in the sun feeling rather bored. So what do you do? Get out the cellphone of course and start taking photos.
This one is of the needle in the speedometer. But if you look closely you can see a reflection of the interior of the car. I didn’t notice that until this morning when I enlarged the photo. It is odd what turns up in your photos when you look at them again.

Travel theme: Shine
Good morning from a grey and wet Hastings Sunday.
This week the travel theme is Shine.
These photos are of our front door. I just love Art Deco and I was lucky to find this house to rent with loads of Art Deco features. We have molded ceilings, sunray door handles plus lots of other Art Deco features but with modern heating.
I was fascinated with this door and the way the light, especially the setting sun shone through the glass and giving out different patterns. So here is a close up of the main glass.
Another of the middle stripe of different patterned glass. I love the way that the colours of the garden are allowed to show through.
Stepping back you can see the different glass design.
Finally the whole door.
What I like about this glass is the way the light shines both ways. We can see the light shining through from the back, but also the light bouncing off the textured glass in the front and so giving us the patterns. If you know what I mean.
Thanks for visiting and here are some other great posts for this challenge.

The Daily Post: Between
Good morning from another cold and frosty Hastings.
This morning the prompt from The Daily Post is between.
Between. Capture something in the middle of two things. It can be a person or object, or simply the space in between. It can also be a feeling or relationship — a bond that connects people, or a space that separates. This word might also reflect a choice you need to make — the challenge of choosing one thing over another — or any kind of transition, from childhood to adulthood, single life to married life, day to night.
I had to think hard about this one. At the moment I am between lives – a married life and a single life. I can’t move on really until my settlement is sorted out and I am really divorced. Plus you can’t get divorced for 2 years in New Zealand. I can’t get the song by Helen Readdy out of my head – “I can do anything, I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman”.
I couldn’t find any photos to really represent that. But I did find these ones.
When I am out walking I am fascinated by the way the strong light here in New Zealand shines between branches and leaves and highlights some leaves, but not others. With the autumn colours it is amazing.
I guess these photos show that even when it seems bleak some light will always manage to squeeze between the dark times to give us hope.

One Word Photo Challenge: White
This week’s One Word Photo Challenge by Jennifer is white. There are so many different shades of white and is actually a hard photo to take. This one was taken with my IPhone 5S. I edited with Photoscape with some backlight to highlight the different petals/

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Crooked and Squiggly lines
Good morning from a cool Hastings.
This week’s challenge by Cee is crooked and squiggly lines. So I have gone for a New Zealand theme. At Cornwall Park we have a little oasis of native bush. I love the different lines and lights of the ferns there. I am always taking photos there. There are always pockets of light showing through the canopy and picking out different leaves.
Our national emblem is the silver fern.
Here is Cee’s blog to check out this challenge.

Michelle’s Weekly Pet Challenge: Week 41 Missy
Good morning from a reasonably warm Hastings. It is winter but yesterday we had a warm day over 20 degrees. Just a teaser.
Anyway here is an update of Missy. She certainly knows when I have the camera out and does everything she can to spoil my photos. These were taken last month when I was staying at my parents house. My mother had lit the fire and Missy was stretched out to enjoy the warmth.
