The Daily Post: Descent

Descent

Good morning from a glorious sunny morning here in Hastings.  I love sitting at the table doing my blog and watching the birds flying around in our garden.  Even though they are just sparrows I love listening to them.

This morning The Daily Post has given us the prompt  of descent.  As I was going through my photos I discovered these photos of water descending.  Even though it is through gravity water will always be heading down.

Descent 2 (484x640)

In the middle of Hastings CBD there is a large water fountain which you have seen before.  I was trying to take some good photos of the water running off.

Descent 3 (484x640)

Then there is this large water feature just of to the west of the water fountain.  The design is of the grape and fruit leaves to symbolise our orchards and vineyards.

Floral Friday: miniature iris.

IMG_5657 (500x640)

Yesterday as I was doing my blog I noticed this iris coming into bloom. It was rather fast. It seemed that one minute it was a small bud, and the next it was fully open.

Steve’s Snap & Zap: Old

IMG_5646 (501x640)

This is a great challenge from Steve. I love editing photos, just to see where it goes. I had to think of what to use for old. A selfie was out of the question. Steve used his old iPod.
Then I looked over to my china cabinet and found my oldest possession. A rather old battered vase that is conveniently engraved “Auckland Exhibition 1899”. I found it in the neighbours plot as the were building a house. How on earth it got there I don’t know. So I have had it for some 40 or so years. Even with all my travels I still have it. It is just like the leaning tower of Pisa – falling down more like it.

IMG_5647 (501x640)

With Snapseed I first added the Drama 2 filter.

IMG_5648 (501x640)

Then the nature HDR filter.

IMG_5648 (501x640)

Then the old lens filter.

IMG_5649 (501x640)
Then I headed to FX Photostudio and added the pencil paint filter.

IMG_5650 (501x640)

Then I added the vintage old photo filter.

IMG_5651 (501x640)

For my final image I added a glow.

A Photo a Week: Livestock.

IMG_0484 (506x640)

Good morning from a cloudy, windy Hastings.

Nancy has given us the challenge of finding livestock. I live in a rural city which means that it is only 15 minute drive from the CBD to the country side. So yes we have a lot of livestock. I just don’t have many photos of livestock.

Then searching through my iPad it came across these photos I took one very cold, frosty winter morning last year.

Sparrow and feet (640x451)

This week Cee has asked for bare feet/or shoes for this great challenge:

One Word Photo Challenge: Scarlet

Scarlet 2 (640x476)

Good morning from a very windy Hastings.  Yesterday we reached the nation’s high of 26 degrees celsius.  Easily the hottest day so far.  But the wind drives me nuts.

This week Jennifer has given us the colour of scarlet.  Red is one of the hardest colour to capture.  I  know because I have some strange coloured photos when they are supposed to be a nice deep red. But I did find these photos that were closest to what the original subjects were.

Scarlet (640x552)

For some reason I found my 5S is more accurate in retaining colour than my Fujifilm.

Michelle’s Weekly Pet Challenge: Cat in a Tree

Cat in a tree (497x640)

Good morning from a warm very windy Hastings morning.

Last year whenever I would go for a walk I would find cats coming up to me.  In the case of this cat, it was spying on me while I tried to catch some good photos.

This is my entry this week for Michelle’s challenge.

For more information here is her blog to check out:

Sunday Stills Challenge:Fall Foliage

270 (640x470)

Ed has paid homage to the fall colours in the Northern hemisphere with his challenge this week.

I have already post a lot of autumn photos so it was a challenge to come up with something new.

IMG_4551 (506x640)

Actually we don’t call it fall here.  It is autumn.  But we use fall in this little rhyme:

We leap forward into spring,

We fall back into autumn.

A little poem to remind us which way to change the clock – one hour forward into spring and one hour backwards into autumn.

Phoneography Challenge: Hastings at Dusk

Hastings at Dusk (2) (480x640)

Good morning from another grey Hastings morning.  Yesterday it rained soooooo hard all afternoon.  So it was a great time to sit down on my quilt.  It is slowly coming together.

This week, being the fourth week of October means it is the challenger’s choice for Sally’s challenge for non SLR digital devices.

http://lensandpensbysally.wordpress.com/2014/10/27/phoneography-and-non-slr-digital-devices-photo-challenge-challengers-choice-abstraction-in-nature/

Every Friday night we have a movie night.  My daughter has all the Marvel films on her iTunes and so we have started from the beginning and last Friday we were up to The Avengers and this week I believe we are seeing Ironman 3.  We should be up to date by Christmas.

So what has all this to do with this challenge.  Well last Friday I picked her up from work and we headed down to the local supermarket to get our munchies and then some takeaway food (Carl’s Jr which was horrible) just to make a night of it.

As I was heading to pick her up I could tell that the sunset was going to be a good one so while she went into the supermarket I sat in the car taking photos .

Hastings at Dusk 3 (640x480)

Hastings at Dusk 4 (640x480)

All have been edited with Snapseed.

The movie was good though.  My children told me I had to see the whole series from the beginning to pick up all the in jokes.  I do annoy them by being ignorant and ask them questions at the wrong time.  But it is some memories for my daughter to take with her when she leaves for university next year.  To make up for all the other bad times this year.
