The Daily Post: Achievement Part 2

IMG_5728 (501x640)

I did my post last Saturday for this challenge but there was one person I didn’t acknowledge – my son.

Actually both my children are my greatest achievement.  They have been a fantastic help to me this year when things weren’t so good for us.

Even when they were little they were really good kids.  When I had to rest they just played quietly on their own, not even raiding the cupboards or getting up to mischief.  They love each other and support one another and have never fought one another.  But now it is a time for parting.  Ruth will be off to university in Wellington next year.  It will be hard as we are all very close.  It will be like losing a piece of me.

I am so proud of my son Martin.  Yes, he stands well over 6’2″.  And he has been very strong for all of us really.  Ruth and I have had to look up to him a lot this year.

This photo is of him graduating from his Bible class.  Both of them had to get up at 5.16 AM to go to the church for the study.  Ruth made it every day for 4 years.  Martin did for 3 years because she dragged him along.  But this year he had to take about 4 days off.

Another achievement I am proud of about Martin is that he has done so well at school despite having dyslexia.  He reached the end of the line last year with his English and failed it for the first time.  So in order to get his University Entrance qualification he had to repeat the English paper again  this year, his final year.  But he got it with time to spare.

But now he has just got some great news – he has just got a scholarship for his studies next year at EIT – our community college for my American friends.  Eastern Institute of Technology to be exact.  He will be doing a degree in computer studies.  I got very emotional when he got his letter.  I have no doubt he will do well with his studies.

Finished quilt (640x431)

Finally, as promised.  My finished quilt.  It was a mission to do it over the weekend and I am suffering for it now.  But I did it, with a month to spare for Christmas.  Now that is an achievement for me.

  2. Thank you for sharing your family with us. You have every right to be proud of your kids. It is hard letting them go. You know you have to but when the time comes it isn’t easy. We always want the best for them and always want them to be better than we are.
Computer Science is a great field. Both of mine have their degrees in the same. I have no idea what they do for a living. lol Something with computers. But they are making a living. 🙂
I hope you are finding a new place to move. We moved twice in the past eight months. It is not fun.

  3. I think most people underestimate the value of child-rearing, it’s seldom “a breeze” and you have good reason to be proud of your achievements and those of your children….. the quilt’s not bad either!
