This is a new challenge for me. I have joined this One Photo Focus for March, hosted by Stacey at Visual Venturing.
This is where we are all given the same photo to see what we could come up with.
The original by Lore from Snow Fissures and Fractures was rather dark. Especially with the flowers in the centre of the image. So I increased the clarity and played around with the exposure to lightened it up.I then added a vignette for the final image.
I wasn’t very adventurous this time. That was really because I had so many problems with my computer that I did run out of time. Now everything is running ok so there is no excuse for next month to unleash the inner artist in me. The full Photoshop version is quite different to what I was used to with Elements. I am inspired though, by some of the edits done by these bloggers.

It is. Next time I will have more time to work on the editing. This is what I would normally do but I just want to flex my artistic muscles. Thanks for commenting Irene

I’m interested in your editing. I don’t have a programme to do it and I don’t have the time at the moment to work it out. Mine go out as they come off the camera but I’m interested in what can be done to good effect as you demonstrated today and previously.

Thanks Irene. In Windows where you archive your photos there should be a basic editing programme – for colour adjustments, sharpening and black and white. Have a look.

I have found the black and white and basic editing which I have used for B & W photos and the odd cropping but all these other effects. Maybe I just need to experiment with what is there first.

Raewyn I know you had dire computer problems so nothing to apologise for there, and your edit might not have had all the whizz bang bits some others did but is still simple and elegant 🙂

Thanks Stacey. I spent a lot of time yesterday just playing around with layers and working things out. That is a good way to start but will go to the library and see if I can get a good book on it.

Raewyn, you may have not been able to do everything you wanted to Loré’s image, but truly, the few changes you did make work beautifully to focus our eyes where you want them to be! And I really do like your use of the light vignette here. I’ve never used it before as I’ve never really had a photo where I thought it worked well. But I’m pleasantly surprised to see that it does here. A different take than anyone else, which is also fun to see. Thanks for joining the 1PF club – we’re happy you’re aboard! 🙂

I agree with the other comments that the light vignette was a great touch and worked much better than I would have expected.
I was surprised (and not pleasantly so either) at how different Photoshop was from Elements, although this was quite a few versions ago before Elements allowed layers. I like using lynda.com for my photography classes. At $25 / month, I have a vast array of classes and not just for photography either.
Of course, in the end, you have to just practice as you noted in one of your responses above. That is always the best way to remember what you’re learning.
