A Photo a Week: Muted colours

Soft roses

This week Nancy from nancy merrill photography has asked us for our muted photos.

This one was actually hard for me to find.  Our light in New Zealand is rather harsh and makes our colours seem stronger.  Generally my photos tend to be very vibrant, especially my roses.

So after a long hunt through my photos I found this one that was slightly over exposed when I took it.  Normally I would not light it but I like the softness in the colours of the petals and the very pale green background.

For this one I edited it to focus on the soft pink petals.

Monochrome of the Day

Decocraftsdigicrafts (3 of 1)

Marilyn from SERENDIPITY has challenged me to do the 5 day black and white challenge.  I have already done it but have decided to do one monochrome image every day now.  I do love monochrome and that it can show so much more detail than a colour image can.  This is true for this pumpkin flower that I found creeping through our fence.  The colour version was nice, but the veins and lines really came out in the monochrome version.

I am not going to nominate anyone as I have already done so.

ABFriday – One photo Focus – Cee’s Photo

Cee's Photo (1 of 1)

This month the photo we were given for this challenge from Cee at Cee’s Photography.  She held a poll to see which one we would like to edit.  The majority went for this photo:

So firstly I went to GIMP and added a cartoon filter to define the edges of the green foliage on the tree.

Then I went to Photoscape and cropped it.  I played around with some of their preset filters and came up with this painted look.  It was too harsh so I then went to Lightroom and decreased the clarity just to soften the edges of the building which gave it a more painted look.

It  is hosted by Stacy at Visual Venturing if you want to join this challenge:

WPC: Blur

Soft rose

Good morning from a cool but sunny Hastings Saturday.

This week The Daily Post has asked us for our blurry photo.  Well, I do have a lot of blurry photos and my black and white post yesterday was deliberately taken out of focus.  This photo was taken at Frimley Rose Garden.  It was out of focus, but I just reduced the clarity and added my favourite vignette.  I like the blurred lines in the rose which really softens the petals.  I also worked on the noise reduction slider too.

This week, share a photo that’s a blur. You could keep your camera out of focus to achieve a blurry photo, or take a photo of something in motion. Or go in a different direction — capture an image of an experience that would otherwise be a blur, or of something in a state of flux.
