Good morning from a cool sunny Hastings day.
My photos today for Ailsa’s challenge at Where’s my backpack? were taken yesterday at Pakowhai Park. The weather was glorious, slightly windy but it was quiet at the park. I had a couple of amazing experiences. The first one was catching this white faced heron. Ok, the background colours are not subtle but the colours of this beautiful elegant bird is.
Then on the way back to my car this fantail decided to let me take photos of it.
It was still difficult as they can’t stay still for very long. They are like butterflies flitting about and just settling for a short time. I had a lot of photos of blurry faces where it moved.
Then it flew around me while I walked back to the car. That is until a woman came with her dog.

Thanks for visiting.
Very nice images. You mentioned on GWGT that we have pretty birds, but they are all headed your way. Soon they will be your birds. In my post it shows where in Canada they are headed.

They don’t reach New Zealand. I am trying to find our native birds but the heron was introduced in the 40’s while the fantail is a native. Thanks for visiting.

Oh I forgot. Why I thought Canada I don’t know. I do know you are “down under”. I saw that heron and thought Canada without thinking
!!! Sorry.

Thanks so much. I was so happy to see this heron feeding and it didn’t seem to mind the dogs walking past either. Food was more interesting i think.

Beautiful photos Raewyn. What a great shot to get the bird with the little fish in his mouth.

Great bird shots. Especially impressive of that little guy. It’s not easy to get them in focus because they won’t usually sit still. Good ones!!
