Good morning from a cold Hastings day. We seemed to have missed all the wet weather that has hit the lower North Island. But it will be cold. The South Island has had a huge dumping of snow – the ski fields were closed due to too much snow. So thinking of my family and friends affected by this bad weather.
I know it is the summer solstice over in the northern hemisphere. So we have just celebrated our winter solstice. Now it is downhill to spring – shame we have to get through a couple of cold months first.
Some more Maori sculpture this week for Cee’s challenge over at Cee’s Photography. These are called Pou – no, not the game.
The pou (carved posts) have been made in a partnership between Hastings District Council and Nga Marae o Heretaunga. The totara for the pou is from Waimana, a gift from the Tuhoe people. A marae has produced each pou to represent a tupuna (ancestor). Each pou faces the marae who contributed to the carving.

Thanks also to Cee for selecting me for my Oddball post last week.

Didn’t realise that theses carvings had such great detail at the back…long hair etc. Very cold here this morning. Come on spring!!!

It is sooooo cold here at the moment. Going through a lot of firewood. These carvings stand alone which is why they are detailed at the back.

We are having a hot summer so far, so your cold weather sounds marvelous. Your totem poles (or whatever they are called) are very cool for this week’s odd balls. 😀
