Good morning from a cool but sunny Hastings morning. As I drove down to Otane yesterday I found noticed that the autumn colours are finally emerging. I will have to drive down one day soon with just my camera and try to do these colours justice. Just as we are now going into winter. It has been a long hot summer and the warm days are still here.
Anyway onto Cee‘s great oddball challenge which is now into week 18. Where has the time gone. So for this week here is this garage door which as been painted with the 11th commandment – “Thou Shalt Not Park”. This garage was attached to a big church. My daughter said that she had never noticed this sign, despite walking past it regularly. I just thought it was rather clever myself.

Thanks for visiting.
I love that sign; I can never pass it without laughing. For me it symbolises a strand of religion that doesn’t take itself too seriously — something that seems to be missing in many of the fundamentalist groups. St Matthew’s in the City here in Auckland tries to do something similar with its billboards, but misses the mark quite often.

I know what you mean. I have seen those billboards and sometimes they are good, but yes, they go very wide of the mark and can be really offensive

Yes; it’s a difficult thing to make humour work. I have cringed at some of the boards and I’m not even religious. I do feel for those who feel affinity with the church, but who are offended by the attempts to be “hip” or funny. 🙂

I was wondering where the XI came from. At a church, it is easily figured out. Wonderful photo Raewyn for this week.

I would like a cent for every time that commandment has been broken. 🙂

I know. I lived opposite a school once. Every time it was raining the parents went crazy and many a time I couldn’t drive out – the driveway was blocked. I had to walk home, regardless of weather, and a lot further than the children today. Some of them just lived a few minutes from school and their parents had to pick them up in the car even with just a few drops of rain……

Humor when telling people things is always appreciated, even though not always obeyed. Nicely spotted, Raewyn.

In the United States I’ve occasionally seen a sign saying “Don’t you even think of parking here.”
