November One Photo Focus

Julie from Julie Powell Photography has contributed her image for our editing.

Here is her original image.  I cropped quite heavily to focus on the chair and rose.  I wanted the draping to stay. And of course it was crying out for a vintage edit. So I first edited with Nik Color Efex Pro 4, and then over to Topaz Textures for the peeling paint filter.

It was fun looking at all the other edits too.  Very painted feel this month.

September One Photo Focus

September 2016 One Photo Focus.jpg 1@0,1x

This month we are editing this great image taken by Stacy.  As soon as I saw this it screamed vintage to me.  So I decided to explore the Nik Analog effects and used the wet plate camera.  I can’t tell you exactly what I did as I just went by what I felt was right for the image.

To add the old film effect I imported it to Pixlr and voila.

London Eye Kent@0,1x

Good morning from a very snow battered Hastings.  Sorry I didn’t get around to all the blogs yesterday but we had a power cut due to heavy snow.  I am out this morning with my camera going down to the market hoping to get some good photos.

This month the original photo was by Robin Kent PhotographybyKent.

London Eye Kent

I had left it to the last minute as per usual so I first added an HDR filter to bring out more details and then played around with the different filters in the Nik Collection and Pixlr.  It didn’t quite end up how I imagined it in my mind but I am still happy with the result.

July 2016 One Photo Focus.jpg Final image

The first Friday (Saturday here in the future) is time for this great challenge.

This month the image was by  Bren Ryan of RyanPhotography.  Her work is totally amazing.  I love her edits.

July 2016 One Photo Focus

This was the original image. Very dark.  So first edited it with Nik HDR, which brought out a lot of the details but the turret was still too dark.  So I focused on that for a few more edits to make the castle more even in tones.

Then I edited it in Nik Analog and Topaz textures to give the vintage feel I was after.  It just reminded me of Hogwarts Castle for some reason.

This month there has been some really creative effects.  It really is inspiring to see what others do to the image.

This month was a difficult image for me to decide how to edit.  It was a beautiful image submitted by David Croker of CADEPhotographic.  After playing around a bit I just went to the Topaz Textures and ended up with a cooler image.  It was really interesting to see how everyone edited it this month. So check them out over at Stacy’s blog.

There was some discussion about the power lines.  I tend to keep them in as they are part of the image for me.  Sometimes, though, with my way of editing I tend to somehow get them to fade into the background more. What do you think?

May 2016 One Photo Focus

The first Saturday (Friday for those in the past) showcase our editing of one photo.  This month we were given this photo by Julie over at juliepowell2014.  Her photography and editing is amazing.

May 2016 One Photo Focus

To go for my usual vintage feel, I edited with Nik Collection – HDR and then played with the texture filters in the Topaz Textures.

There have been some amazing editing this month – very adventurous. So check them out over at Stacy‘s blog.

April 2016 One Photo Focus 1

This month we had this fabulous image by Cee Neuner.

I loved the contrast between the old barn and the modern electricity pole and cars.   Anyway this was edited in Photoshop, Nik HDR,  Topaz Textures and finally Nik Analog for the vintage look.

Here is the original:

Gothic Staircase to --8506

Good morning from a cool but sunny Hastings day.

This month we get to edit this great image from Nancy over at

nancy merrill photography.

As soon as I saw this I knew that I wanted a gothic feel to go with the architecture of the building.  My process is as follows:

  1. HDR filter
  2. Topaz texture filter for the texture
  3. Silver Efex Pro 2 for the pinhole filter in the vintage presets.

And voila!

Final Image

Here is my version for this great challenge by Stacy over at Visual Venturing – One Photo Focus Challenge.

This month the image was taken by Stacey over at her blog –

Learning to See Light.

OPF Image for Feb JPG Full Size-3398

I added a HDR filter with the Nik Collection to bring out the colours of the boat.  I played around with some Topaz filters – in particular the textures.  I didn’t like the buildings in the background as they were too distracting so I added some clouds.  It was quite intensive but I finally got there in the end.

One Photo Focus: January 2016

Raewyn's Photos January Edition

This month we had a great image to start with taken by Laura Macky Photography

So I wanted to do a watercolour image.  I spent some time using layers in Photoshop adding the different colours. I did write everything down what I did but having tidied up for Christmas and a clean start to 2016 I seem to have lost my work flow.

Suffice to say the Nik Collection was used as well as Lightroom.  I didn’t want it to be exact with my colours as I wanted the water colour affect of the colours running.

And here is the orginal – such a great photo – so many possibilities as seen by all the edits.
