Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge

wings (640x466)

This is a great series by Cee using lyrics from songs.  This week it is this one:

With tuppence for paper and strings, You can have your own set of wings, With your feet on the ground, You’re a bird in a flight, With your fist holding tight, To the string of your kite. Oh, oh, oh! Let’s go fly a kite, Up to the highest height! Let’s go fly a kite and send it soaring, Up through the atmosphere, Up where the air is clear, Oh, let’s go fly a kite!

I tried to take photos of seagulls in flight with my cell phone last week.  I wasn’t successful.  I tried to edit them last night and just wasn’t happy with them.  So I searched through my photos and found this one.  This duck has it’s own set of wings, it’s feet are on the ground and it looks like it is in flight. So I thought, that will do nicely.

Here you can check out this fabulous challenge and other ones hosted by Cee

Good morning from a cooler Hastings morning. At least the heat has gone now and it is getting pleasant again.

Here is my entry for Jennifer’s challenge:

It is the closest I could get to this colour.

Monochrome Madness

Raewyn's Photo's.

Good morning from a cool and grey Hastings morning.

Last week I did a 5 day black and white challenge. Black and white was always fun for me, especially in the darkroom.  I did some printing with colour, but black and white had so many more possibilities. But with time and children that sort of faded into the background.   But now, with the digital age I can really get back into it.  So I have decided to join Monochrome Madness.

It is run by Leanne at:

So here is my first entry.  I love the way that a photo can completely change it’s ambiance when converting from colour to black and white.  With this photo the focus is squarely on the petals and the stems fade into the background.

So check out this wonderful world of monochrome madness.  There are some amazing monochrome photos each week.

One Four Challenge: February Week 2

Dandelion Week 2 (484x640)

My second week photo for this challenge.  Thank you everyone for your helpful comments last week on how to get rid of the bleached overexposed area.

I have tried with both GIMP and Photoscape to correct this problem.  All it did was darken the background. So here is a slide show of the two edits so far. Any further constructive criticism and advise is welcome.  I don’t have Photoshop or Lightroom,  Just the two photo editing programmes I have mentioned along with Fotor which is really only preset filters.

Phoneography Challenge: Macro

Morning glory macro (488x640)

Good morning from a cool and cloudy Hastings morning.  Yesterday we hit 33 degrees and had the highest temperature in the country.  Phew.  It was so bad for me – this house is rather cool with all the windows open.

Anyway onto this challenge by Sally.

I have gone for a sci fi look about my photos today.  When I did the editing on this last night on Snapseed I was thinking about The X Files which is what these photos remind me of.  While I have been beading madly I have been watching this series from the beginning – I am now up to series 2 episode 14 I think.  Anyway these photos somehow remind me of the opening graphics.  Sort of.

Cee’s Oddball Challenge: Week 6

IMG_7120 (485x640)

Good morning from a cool Hastings morning.  Today we are predicted to go well into the 30’s celsius.  Crazy, when two days ago it was colder and more bearable.

Anyway for Cee’s challenge this week I am giving an update on my Art Deco petal dress.  I have been madly beading the past week.  As usual I leave it to the last couple of weeks to get things finished.  So far the dress weighs about 1/2 kg – not sure what that is in pounds but I would say about a pound.  What will add the weight is when I bead the fringe. It will be interesting to wear such a heavy dress.  But I think the petals get more defined and drop with the heavy fringe.

I am also keeping an eye on the hours I work on it.  By this I am watching The X Files from the beginning.  No ads so I know each episode is approximately 45 minutes long.  On the weekend alone I worked 8 hours on it.  So up until know I have worked about 50 hours.

I have to look up the timetable for events.  One thing I don’t want to miss taking photos of is the steam train.  As I was driving back from Napier last week my daughter and I were working out good spots to stop on the side of the road by the railroad tracks to take good shots.

That is, if she finds my camera for me. Otherwise it will have to be my cellphone.

Good morning from a cool but sunny Hastings day.  The weather is very erratic at the moment – we dropped to  18 degrees on Friday and now it is starting to climb up again and when I checked my phone it is supposed to be 30 degrees again form the beginning of the week.

WPC Challenge: Scale

Good morning from a cooler Hastings morning.  Yesterday it was windy and warm while I was writing my post.  The wind then suddenly dropped and it was quiet for a while.  Then all of a sudden it picked up again and the temperature had dropped about 5 degrees.  While the relief from the heat is good, my son and I found it quite cold.  The wind had turned round from the south.  Apparently there was snow in the South Island.  It was so much easier to sleep last night.

Anyway onto the Daily Post challenge this morning.  Scale.  I chose this photo for the depth of field showing different heights of the rose stems.

This photo was taken at Frimley Rose Garden.  Where I must go again once I find my camera.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: My Favourite Things – My children in the snow

Mr Snowbear (640x573)

Good morning from a cooler Hastings morning.

I am loving this challenge’s series by Cee.  My favourite things – the song from The Sound of Music: My children are my favourite things.

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes, Silver white winters that melt into springs, These are a few of my favorite things.

So for this week I dug into my archives, literally.  These photos were taken about 15 years ago in Austria.  And the two children hiding under their ski suits are my two children aged about 4 and 5.  We had a lot of fun last night going through all the old photos.  Both my children took great delight in finding the most unflattering photos of each other, taking photos with their phones and posting on FaceBook.    My daughter also took a lot of photos for herself to put them into albums.

For someone who is passionate about photography I was terrible about putting my photos into any sort of order and literally had shoe boxes fill of old  photos.  I also found my first ever photos I took which sparked my passion.  I will post them one day.  I have another suitcase in the shed with more of my serious photos.  One day…….. Anyway I love the digital era where everything is neatly filed in albums.

It was a fun night last night.  My daughter fell asleep about 6 PM – she gets up really early to go to work.  About 8 – 8.30 PM the sky turned red.  I haven’t found my camera yet so went to grab my daughter’s camera.  This woke her up and she came rushing outside frantically asking what was the time, what was the day and did she have to work.  She was so disorientated and I just couldn’t stop laughing.  In the end I just used my cellphone as it is not the same using someone else’s camera.  I have narrowed it down to two possible spots – one I will check out today and the other one is a bit more complicated.  I think my daughter might have packed it with her stuff which is in storage in another house here in Hastings.

Anyway onto the challenge.  Here are a couple other photos of my children enjoying the sun.

Ruth and Martin with their snowman (640x482)

True loves kiss (640x482)

Actually both Ruth and Martin hated the snow so this was one of the few times I got them enjoying themselves.

No spring photos today – I posted them a little earlier.
