Cee’s Black & White Photos: Candid Photos at the Zoo

Ooh, the watchful-

Good morning from a cool but so far sunny Hastings day.

This week I have soooooo many photos to chose from for Cee Neuner‘s great black & white challenge.  The zoo is a great place to get so many candid shots of the animals and the visitors.  The weather was perfect and we had so much fun.  And  I managed to get photos of animals in every enclosure we saw.  Normally I am not a fan of zoos but they are becoming increasingly important to keeping species from disappearing from our planet.  Wellington Zoo is also dedicated to educating children to look after our environment as well.

So enjoy some candid shots from Wellington Zoo.

I must apologise if I haven’t replied to all your wonderful comments – thank you so much for that.  It will take me a few days to get back to normal – today I have my Social Snappers group.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Smooth Waters and Taps

Shiny Tap-

Good morning from a clean Hastings.  Yesterday it was rather wet and stormy.  I was expecting more rain today but no, it is still windy but the sun is out shinning.  Just as well as the Art Deco Festival is well underway.  Cee Neuner has asked us for our smooth photos.  So first up is this tap.  There is a selfie somewhere on the tap – so much fun to see the reflections.

Then there are the smooth waters at Pekapeka Wetlands.

One Word Photo Challenge: Hay Bales

Hay Bales-

Good morning from a cloudy but warm Hastings day.

This week Jennifer Nichole Wells has asked us for our photos of barns in her challenge.  Here in the milder part of New Zealand we don’t have a lot of barns to store hay.  Instead you will find piles of hay bales, such as these dotting the landscape.  It may look all neat and tidy but there is a lot of plastic wrapping and the rubbish needs to go somewhere.

Travel Theme: Camaraderie at a Cricket Match

Camaraderie-

Good morning from a glorious spring morning here in Hastings.  I have seen that snow has fallen for a few of my blogging friends so I hope you are all warm and cosy.

This week Ailsa from Where’s My Backpack?: Camaraderie wants to see our photos of camaraderie.  What an appropriate theme this week after all what has been going on around the world this week.

So on searching through my archives I found these photos of a cricket game at Cornwall Park on Labour Day – last Monday in October for us in New Zealand.

Camaraderie--2

I love the way people come and make themselves at home and use it as a chance to catch up with friends while watching the game.

Camaraderie--3

Of course there is the team camaraderie as well.

Serendipitous Photo Story: Learning about Gifs

Stretching

Good morning from a cool and cloudy spring day in Hastings.

I woke up this morning determined to try and work out how to do gifs.  You know all those short animated videos that are now becoming popular. Just looking at this is actually making me dizzy though as I am writing my post.

Anyway when I go out taking photos I tend to take a lot of shots together so that when I go through them fast I could see a short video.  So I got up early this morning and went to Photoscape where I found it was relatively easy.  I managed to save it as well.

But the problem came when I tried to upload to Facebook. Apparently they hate gifs there – well they can be uploaded everywhere else easily.  I suppose they think that they are a law until themselves.  But, after googling it I managed to work out how to do it. Then it promptly got lost in cyberspace.

It really was just an exercise in learning something new.  I still prefer stills, but when I get something like this I will try again.

Here is the same duck.  I just loved her reflections.

Feathered Friends-1-5

I actually am trying to work on my reaction times.  I have a lot of photos of both ends of ducks and lots of water.  They do move so fast.

As you can see.

All in all a work in progress.

Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge: A Colourful Spring

Spring-1-3

Good morning from another beautiful spring morning here in Hastings.

At the moment when I go for a walk it is rather stressful when I leave the camera at home.  So frustrating for me.  The colours at the moment are glorious.  Spring has been about a month late in coming.  But it was worth the wait.  To start with I just tried to walk.  But no, I couldn’t just walk.  So out comes my iPhone 6S. The only problem with the new operating system is that the music is cut off while I access the camera.  Have to work on that one. Anyway at least I do have a camera on me. So here are some photos just taken around the block where I live.

No need to edit them as the colours speak for themselves.

This is for Sally’s great challenge for mobile photography.

WPC Challenge: Getting Up Close and Personal

Friday 24th July 2015-199

Good morning from a cool but sunny day.  The sun is just coming up and it should be a good day.  I am heading over to Napier again today with a couple of lovely ladies from my social snappers group.  So it should be fun.

Today’s challenge by  over at The Daily Post has asked us to get up close and personal with our photos.  Macros.  Which is great as yesterday we had a great time just wandering around the Women’s Centre taking photos.  It had been foggy which went very quickly.  Which disappointed me a little.  But that was okay because it left a very heavy dew and with the early morning light we had a fabulous time wandering around and just enjoying the opportunities.  We also found some early blossoms too.  So spring is showing some signs of arriving.  I am hanging out for some warmer weather.

 Friday 24th July 2015-031

The light was just right and the colours of the flowers were so bright and vivid.

Friday 24th July 2015-021

So I took a lot of photos….

Friday 24th July 2015-034

But to my surprise

Friday 24th July 2015-182

I only took 314 photos….

Friday 24th July 2015-202

I have now a lot of photos of poppies.

Friday 24th July 2015-210

Showing both front and back views…

Friday 24th July 2015-224

Some fully open views….

Friday 24th July 2015-226

Some on the verge of dying…

Friday 24th July 2015-282

And finally some colourful leaves in the sun.

I know I have a lot of photos today but it was a case of which to chose.
