Cee’s Black & White Photography: Made from Plastic

Good morning from a cool Hastings morning.

This week Cee has gone for a modern theme. Things made of plastic.  I had a bit of a think about this one.  Then I found these photos on my phone.

First up is a macro of a plastic roll of cotton thread.  I have brought a cheap little lens for my iPhone.  It just clips on and I can have wide angle or macro.  The macro was a bit difficult to work out.  It seems that I have to literally place the camera lens just about on the subject I want to shoot.  But it does have some cool effects.

This photo was taken last summer.  It was very, very hot right into the evening. For those in Fahrenheit this is over 90 degrees and it was actually 6.21 PM, (I hadn’t changed this for summer time).  We go through it ok though.  Well I am still here.

Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Native New Zealand Wildlife Through Windows

North Island Kokako

Good morning from another warm sunny spring day here in Hastings.  For this week’s challenge hosted by Cee I decided to show some of the wildlife seen through windows at Zealandia.  First up is actually a stuffed bird – the native Kokako which is a protected species.

Another vulnerable New Zealand native – the Tuatara – also called the living fossil as they are not part of the reptiles and amphibian species – they are thought to be descended from the dinosaurs or some other species that had lived then.

Ok, this would have been better in colour, considering it’s name.  But another vulnerable species.

All these photos were taken through windows of enclosures which is hopefully not the only way we can see these endangered species in the future.

Cee’s Black & White Challenge: Two Different Things

Good morning from a cool, but sunny Hastings morning.

Just a quick post today – have a busy day ahead of me.  So sorry if I don’t get to other blogs today.

Anyway Cee has asked us for photos showing either two different things or the number 2.  So I searched my archives and found these two photos from Wellington. First up is this tree and a lamp post – man versus nature.  Both are leaning towards each other…..

Good morning from a cloudy spring day here in Hastings.

Yesterday was lovely – so warm that I went for a walk at lunch time in the park across the road to take some photos.  Here are some that I found that was perfect for Cee’s monochrome challenge. First up is this rather vocal tui.  They are very busy at the moment.  I can see them flying around in their mating ritual from my computer desk.

Then I stalked this magpie.  I haven’t really seen them around here in town.  I have seen a lot of them flying around during my weekly drive down to Otane.  But never here in Hastings. So I tiptoed up to it.  But it was smart and would go in the opposite direction whenever I got too close to it.  And that included up in this tree.

And of course I had to add a floral – this magnolia. At least with blooms all I have to contend with is the wind.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Trees in Ebbet Park

Good morning from a grey, rather soggy Hastings morning.  We had a lot of rain last night, but nothing like Auckland so I hope that those in Auckland are dry and ok.

So onto sunnier and warmer times for Cee’s Black & White challenge this week.  Thanks so much Cee for featuring my post last week. I really do appreciate it.

This week and next week will be about trees.  I have a lot of photos of trees.  I love them all year around.  I have one just outside my window which is very bare at the moment but still attract a lot of birds.  Very entertaining when I am on the computer.  Actually come to think of it, it is very, very quiet this morning.  Maybe they are hiding away in their nests, waiting for the sun to come out.

These trees are in Ebbet Park.  Which is right across the road from my house.

I love them in monochrome.  Then they have a timeless quality.

Again I must apologise about visiting other blogs.  Wordpress keeps crashing my browser, so I gave up. I have asked for help, especially how to get rid of those related reading thingies which really slow the loading posts.

Anyway onto more fun images.  This week Cee wants to see our bathrooms and outhouses.  So here are some photos I took at our public restrooms in the CBD.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Reflecting on Chairs

Good morning from a sunny, if somewhat chilly Hastings day.

New Zealand is a happy place today, after finally getting a gold medal at the Olympics.  So far it hasn’t really been that successful for us.  A lot of misfires. But that is how it goes.  Actually I am not really following the games much.  I have too many other things on my mind.  Such as knitting a large sweater as an order.  I have knitted the back, and got up to the armholes in the front before realising that I had used smaller needles.  Big #$%* mistake.  Had to undo it all.  But that is how it goes.

Guess what I will be doing today?  That’s right, sitting down with knitting in hand.

But not in these chairs in full view of the public in both Hastings and Napier.

Good morning from a very wet, cold and miserable day here in Hastings.  Apparently we are to get some snow down to low levels today and over the weekend…. And I am busy with two markets too.  Well, this is winter here downunder.  It is just that we have had such a mild one so far.  But it will be good to get some new photos of snow.

But onto warmer times.  This week Cee has asked us for objects with motors or engines.  So here are some photos from the market day at Maraekakaho earlier this year.

Cee’s Black & White Challenge: Bigger than life

Good morning from a rather stormy Hastings day.

Just to distract me from the weather I went searching for warmer weather in my archives.  Cee’s black & white challenge is asking us for large objects.  I have lots of large trees, but there were too many to look through, and then I found this power pylon.

I know they are not a favourite among landscape photographers, but I don’t mind them – close up they have some great lines and angles.

Also, I must apologise for not really getting around to everyone’s blogs.  My browser is not loading anything that well at the moment.  I must get my son to sort it out.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Things Older than 50 years

Good morning from a chilly and foggy Hastings day.

This morning I had to have a bit of a think about this challenge hosted by Cee.  It was a case of what to use.  Most of my photos are nature or landscape photos – so very much fresh subjects so to speak. So I decided that since I was older than 50 years I would show a photo of a photo of me when I was a baby.

Then there is this photo of my grandmother when she married in the 1930’s.

So I have covered births, marriages and now death – this gravestone at Napier cemetery is older than 50 years.
