Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: A Lock & a Clock

Friday, Social Snappers in the rain 486@0,1x

Good morning from a cool Hastings morning.

I am a bit late today as it took me some time to find my images today. Locks and clocks are interesting subjects.  I just don’t have many photos of them.

When I go down to the market I am the social media queen.  That is I go around and take photos and post of our Facebook page.  It is fun to see what the other stall holders do.  One of the special items I found was this wonderful nautical themed clock.  And a bargain at $6.  It sold very quickly.

The first image was taken in Hastings CBD.  I thought it would be fun to do a little selective colours.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Distant Snows

Good morning from a very wet and soggy Hastings day.  The predicted storm arrived last night, with very heavy rain.  When I got up this morning it was very loud and a lot of the wet stuff.  It has calmed down a lot.  Which is a relief because it is my last Social Snappers group for a while.  I am taking a break as I really want to concentrate on getting a book together.  I have set up a Pledge Me account to help finance it. Any donations over $50 gets the book.  Here in New Zealand I can’t do a GoFundMe account as it doesn’t recognised New Zealand for the bank account.  It doesn’t use PayPal.  But if you are interested just take a look.

Onto this challenge hosted by Cee.  Distance.  So here are a couple of photos taken at Pakowhai Park.  It was a beautiful crisp winter’s day.  There was snow on the distant hills which you can just see in the distance of this first image.

Even with a full zoom the ranges look a long way into the distance.

Cee’s Black & White Photography Challenge: Around Hastings CBD

Unusual Audience

Good morning from a drier Hastings morning. Yesterday we had a lot of rain.  I mean a lot.  I got drenched within minutes of going out in the rain to go down to teach sewing.

A big thank you to Cee for featuring my black & white florals last week.  I feel very honoured to be chosen.

So this week I found some photos from warmer and drier times around the Hastings CBD.  I thought this first photo was just so funny.  That the only audience this busker had was the pig holding up a sign outside one of our banks.

Mirrored Storefront Hastings

Then there is this sign from the window of another bank- I think that the window cleaners didn’t really do a good job here.

Vintage Store Front Hastings

Finally a vintage photo.  All these photos were taken during the Art Deco weekend back in February.  So this wonderful table was outside the Information Centre.

I have to rush so can’t catch up with everyone’s amazing blogs as I have my Social Snappers group this morning. So I will catch up with you all later.

Black & White Blooms 2-

Good morning from a warmish, sunny day here in Hastings.

This week is an easy post for me.  Or well, maybe not.  More of a case of where to start with my florals for Cee’s challenge.

So first up is some yukkas in the rain.

Black & White Blooms 1-

Then some artificial flowers left at the cenotaph on ANZAC day.

Black & White Blooms-

And finally this poppy in the rain.

Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Cars

Cars 1-

Good morning from another cold and frosty day here in Hastings. At least there is no wind so that we can go somewhere outdoors for my Social Snappers group today.  Should be good.

Anyway Cee has asked us for monochrome cars.  So what else do I showcase, but vintage cars – real ones as in the top image.

Cars 2-

Or model cars that my father has made in these two images.

Cee’s Black and White Challenge: Steps in Wellington

Steps 4-

Good morning from a warmer and windier Hastings today.

This week Cee wants to see our photos of indoor or outdoor steps.  So here are a few steps – some rather hair raising steps actually, in Wellington.

Steps 3-

And some rather grand steps.

Steps 1-

And then some steps going into the sea.  Or perches for some seagulls.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Getting Up Close and Personal

Good morning from a very chilly Hastings day.  At least the sun will shine and I can go to Pakowhai Park today with my Social Snappers group and get some awesome photos.

This week Cee has asked us for our close up shots. So first up is this tiny feather caught in some leaves.

Then a close up of some honeycomb.

And then this blackbird sitting on the fence.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Camillas

Camilla in B & W 2-

Good morning from a cool but sunny Hastings day.  Thanks goodness, as I will be taking my Social Snappers group to a new park that the council has just opened up.  It is great exploring just what is around my town.

This week Cee has given us an open topic for our black & white images.  Normally, when I am doing my Monochrome of the Day I do a full series – the number of images depends on how many I like.  At the moment, though, I am rather busy so am doing them every day.  So this morning i have done a series of monochrome camillias that I shot at the Stonycroft Homestead.  I have used the same filter set in Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.  I do love the vintage effects.  Anyway I am going for the noir filters and also the pinhole effect.

Camilla in B & W 1-

So these first two are the noir images.  I also did a little more tweaking in the camera raw filter.

Camilla in B & W 3-

This was also the noir filter.  Rather dramatic.

Camilla in B & W-

And this is the pinhole filter.

So what else can I show but my blooms for this open topic.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Tails it is

Tail of the Tuatara-

Good morning from a cool but sunny Hastings day.  No wind, a fantastic sunrise to start the day and the golden hour was so rich.  With that you can tell I was out taking photos in my pjs as usual.  I had just woken up, looked out the window and I was a goner.  Such is the life of a photographer.  Sigh.  I love the golden hour in autumn, the colours are so much richer.

But onto monochrome now.  This week Cee has asked us for some photos of tongues or tails.  I couldn’t really find any tongues so here are some tails.

First up is the tail of the tuatara. As you can see it didn’t like me taking portraits so decided to head back into his hole.

Using his Tail for Balance-

Then there is this kangaroo using it’s tail for balance.

Taking a Bath 1-2

Taking a Bath-

And these last two images are of a small parrot taking just washing it’s tail feathers in the water.

I must dash.  I will be getting to Stonycroft this week.  And the weather is perfect.  Phew.

Cee’s Black & White Challenge: Tiny Feet

Tiny Feet 3-

Good morning from a windy, but warm Hastings day.

This week Cee is asking for our feet or shoes.  Going through my photos I realised that I really didn’t have a lot of photos of feet, or shoes for that matter.  Another thing on my list to do.

Not today though.  I am taking my Social Snappers group to Stonycroft Homestead.  It should be interesting.  I have shown photos of this impressive building before and have always wanted to be able to wander around the grounds and see what it was like inside.

After searching my archives I came with these photos of the monarch caterpillars.

Tiny Feet 2-

The quality is not that good as they are heavily cropped so my apologies.
