Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Legs and Feet

Napier and Otane 244@0,1x

Good morning from a cool but finally dry Hastings day.

A couple of weeks ago I went to a Nelson Mandela day over at Napier.  It was all about healing yourself.  So there were stands for eating healthily.

As well as Reflexology among other healing forms.

Good morning from a cool, but drier Hastings morning.  A relief after yesterdays heavy rain.

This week was a hard challenge to find smiles for me.  Simply because I don’t usually take photos of people.  So I had to do some digging around to find these photos.

This second photo looks like a double exposure but I can assure you it isn’t.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Tiffen Park Entrance

Napier and Otane 202@0,1x

Good morning from another unsettled day here in Hastings.  The weather forecast isn’t good so a good day to catch up with my knitting for the market on Sunday.

Last Saturday I was over in Napier for a photo shoot at this carpark under Napier Hill.  These stairs lead to a very steep and somewhat precarious path up the hill.

As you can see.  Not for the faint hearted. I just settled for looking up and admiring the view from the carpark.

Perfect for this week’s challenge.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Tracks through Hastings

Hastings after the rain 240-Edit@0,1x

Good morning from a cool but sunny Hastings day.

Here is another short tour through Hastings.  Just to show how small Hastings is, we have train tracks running through the centre of our CBD.  This is taken looking back towards the clock tower and the main part of the CBD.

And then looking the other way we are into the industrial area and then out into the countryside. On the right is another shopping centre, the last before leaving town.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Signs in Hastings

Hastings skies and city 482-Edit@0,1x

Good morning from a cool but cloudy day here in Hastings.  (The sun is trying to come out though).

This week Cee is looking for interesting signs.  Something I really don’t take photos off.  Not sure why.  So that means having to do quite a search for something fun.  This is the next street down from our main street.  What is wrong with this photo?

Then there is this sign I found at the Art Gallery.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Celebrating Wellington’s Waterfront

Wellington 1 234@0,1x

Good morning from a very cloudy and dull Hastings day.  We are expecting a winter storm today – just lots of rain.  We desperately need it as we have had such a dry autumn and early winter.  It is a bit warmer too which is better.

So onto some warmer times in Wellington.  The waterfront to be exact.  There are some great artistic bridges and a place to spend hours taking photos.

Sculpture background

The collaborative work City to Sea Bridge opened in 1994. It connects the heart of the city to Frank Kitts lagoon and the waterfront, stretching over Jervois Quay, a multi-laned road that separates the city from the waterfront.

The bridge is constructed of timber planking and is adorned with non-traditional wooden sculptures carved by prominent Māori artist Paratene Matchitt, some of which form the sides of the bridge. One one side of bridge there are two taniwha called Ngake and Whātaitai. On the other side are two manu (birds).Other sculptures are whales, patiki (flounder), and fish.

Some sculptures are on metal poles, including a star and the phases of the moon, which were inspired by a flag used by Te Kooti (a Māori military leader and prophet). These sculptures are best viewed on clear evenings with the full moon rising behind them.

The City to Sea Bridge and its neighbour, Te Aho a Māui together explore the Māori creation story of Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington Harbour) and of Te Aho a Māui (Māui’s fishing line), which he used to fish up the North Island of New Zealand.

The bridge provides ‘a physical and conceptual space through which the different cultural uses and meanings invested in Te Whanganui-a-Tara or Wellington Harbour are played out…  [and] signals the increasing prominence granted to Māori culture within the realm of public art’ (Harper & Lister, 2007, pp. 16-18).

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: A stroll around Pakowhai Park

Pakowhai Park Paths-

Good morning from a very wet, windy and cold Hastings day.  As promised the very heavy rain arrived yesterday afternoon.  Not as bad as Auckland though.  They had torrential rain and flooding.  So thinking of you all up there.  We need the rain here so I shouldn’t really complain.

Anyway onto drier days and a stroll down the paths at Pakowhai Park for Cee’s fun photo challenge.

This park just has to be a favourite spot of mine.  I love hearing the native bird song and just the greeness, even in winter as you can see here.

Pakowhai Park Paths 1-

Everytime I walk down this path I am always fascinated how the light shines through, gravitating the wanderer towards that wonderful place in the distance.

And this is the lower path, following the stream.

Pakowhai Park Paths 3-

As you can.  The skies were a deep blue which was reflected in the water.

Pakowhai Park Paths 4-

As you can see the path has been walked on a lot, showing how popular this is.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Fun at the Blossom Parade

Blossom Parade 2015 2-

Good morning from a very frosty Hastings morning.

At least with Cee’s prompt this week I can have some warmer photos.  My event is the Blossom Parade from last year.  The weather was warm and everyone was out to have fun.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Doors in Wellington

Glass Doors-

Good morning from another cold and frosty morning here in Hastings.

This week Cee wants to see our doors.  So it is back to Wellington for these doors.  I love glass reflections and these doors were just to interesting to pass by.  The reflection of the person is my daughter while I managed to hide behind the double doors.

Fire Truck Menu-

This old fire truck makes a great food truck with the menu written on the door.

Church Doors-

Then there are these church doors.
