Sunday Sills: Edit my Pic

084
Good morning from Hastings.

This week we have been given the photo from Ed for this challenge and it is fun seeing how everyone gets to edit it in their own ways.

I have just added a frame to the image downloaded from his blog.

Ok. So I went a little overboard but the possibilities are endless. It is a fantastic shot to start with.

Here are some other great posts for this challenge.

Cee’s Black and White Challenge: Large Objects

DSCF5303

Good morning from a damp Hastings.

It is funny how you can walk through a park so many times and never really notice what is there.  Yesterday the rain finally eased up I decided to go for a walk to get rid of the cobwebs in my brain.  Actually I am now able to use my arm to manipulate the lens on my camera so rather than doing physiotherapy I would rather take photos.

I headed down to Cornwall Park for some more autumn colours when I passed this.  I though this would make a great subject for this challenge.

DSCF5318

As you can see it is a memorial to a visit back in 1927 of the then Duke and Duchess of York.

Actually it fits in well as at the moment we have the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visiting New Zealand and I am so in love with baby Prince George.  He is so adorable.

Anyway back to the challenge.  I edited these photos with ColorStrokes using the soft filter.  This just adds a little more contrast to the photos so that they so look so bland or flat.

DSCF5312

I just love the regal look on it’s face.

DSCF5320 1

When I first did this photo I didn’t like it as there was just too much detail in the background which was rather distracting.  So I used a vignette filter to soften the background in FX Photostudio Pro before using the ColorStrokes app again.

Same with this photo.

Steve’s Snap & Zap Challenge: The Great Gatsby

photo-6

Good morning from Hastings.

I was saddened to see that Sonel has closed down her photo editing challenge.  I really loved that one as it made me be more adventurous and daring with my photo editing.  Steve was also upset but decided to set up his own challenge.  The Snap & Zap challenge.

Here are rules copied from his blog.

Each week I will suggest a new theme so take a new photo or use an existing photo and edit it with any software you like, so…

Create a new post showing the original
What edits have you made?
What software/techniques have you used?
Link back to the current week’s page
The theme for this week’s “Snap & Zap…” is Movie Titles.

So this week’s theme is Movie Titles.

So what else could I do except The Great Gatsby.

This is one of the photos taken from the vintage car show in Napier last February.

First I went to GIMP for the cartoon filter.

Not much difference other than some more definition.

I wanted to get rid of some of the unwanted detail on the bottom right so I used the vignette 2 filter in FX Photostudio Pro.

Then some colour to make it look more vintage.  I ended up choosing Crystal River  to make it more over the top.

vignette 2 + crystal river

Finally I added a frame and then used the Andes font to add the film title.

This could almost be Daisy hiding her face from the cameras.

Check out Steve’s post here.

Sonel’s Photo Editing Challenge: Song Titles

DSCF2009DSCF2009.1

Leaving on a jet plane by John Denver.

Good morning from another hot sunny Hastings day.  I hope everyone is keeping warm and dry up north.  Hopefully the weather will remember soon that spring should be coming and start to dry out and warm up.

This week’s challenge by Sonel’s Corner Photo-Editing Challenge is song titles.  I did look up some songs from the 1930’s to go with my Art Deco theme this week but couldn’t really find any titles that suited my photos.  So I have to make do with some more information about Napier instead.

Yesterday I had to go to the airport with my parents as my father was flying down to Wellington for some medical treatment.  While I was there I thought of this song title.  Especially when I saw this small twin engine plane being towed by a small tractor.  Note there is a man sitting on the steps.

Anyway this land that the airport sits on was actually part of the sea up until the 1931 earthquake.  The earthquake then lifted all this up and created this estuary which we passed on the way. (I was dying to take photos but we were driving too fast).   It is now completely solid ground where this airport is situated.

Enough of the information, here are some other photos I took yesterday to go with the song title.

The last photo shows Bertie.  He is the face of Art Deco and he drives around in his vintage car and is always interviewed when it comes up on TV. A nice way to greet visitors to the Bay during this Art Deco festival.

For the editing I went to GIMP for the cartoon filter and then to FX Photostudio Pro for vignettes and vintage filters to fit my retro theme this week.

Cee’s Black and White Challenge: Older than 50 years

DSCF0078 1.1

My contribution to Cee’s Photography challenge this week.  This silver tea set was given to my parents when they got married in 1960.  So it only just scrapes in.  I wanted to give the photo a vintage look.  First I used ColourStrokes and it’s dreamy filter for the black and white edit.  Then to GIMP for the cartoon filter before using FX Photostudio Pro for a vignette and frame.

Thanks for visiting and here are a couple of other blogs to check out.

Cee’s Black and White Challenge: the back of things.

Good evening from a coolish Hastings.

This week the  black and white challenge by Cee’s Photography is the back of things.

I was searching for another photo of the back of my husbands classic car, but as usual I didn’t find it (no doubt I will find it when I don’t need it – Murphy’s Law.) But I found these photos of the backs of roses and another flower that I am not too sure about.

Edited with Colour Stroke and FX Photostudio Pro.

Here are a couple of other great blogs to check out in this challenge.
