Phoneography Challenge: Black and White

Black and White Daisies (1 of 1)

Good morning from a sunny Hastings day.

I want to thank everyone for their kind comments about the demise of my computer.  My son came home last night and opened it up.  It is totally dead.  Coffee is a very corrosive liquid for computer parts.  So he has kindly emptied out his computer and set it up for me to use.  Then we got a phone call from Apple in the USA, Texas to be exact and my son has ordered the new MacBook that is coming out shortly.  He will be using his iPad for school.  Thank you so much Martin.  Mum loves you.

Anyway this computer has better specs than the older one I was using and Photoshop runs smoothly.  The only thing is that it doesn’t have much storage.  Beggars can’t be chosers and I do have an external hard drive.

So I was able to upload my photos from my phone.  And found this photo of a daisy. Great for Sally’s challenge at  – Lens and Pens by Sally.

Phoneopgraphy Challenge: Macro

Red Trumpet

Good morning from a chilly Hastings day.  Winter has arrived in New Zealand.  Yesterday we had a lot of rain, but also sunshine but it never really warmed up.  The South Island is covered in snow. Today we are expected to be cold.  So yesterday I made a point of buying matches and a little bit of firewood as we have absolutely no form of heating at all.  Only a woodburner.  Last year we had a heat pump as well as a wood pellet fire which was a lot more economical.

So for Sally’s challenge at Lens and Pens by Sally I have gone for some bright fiery colours of this flower that was creeping over the fence.

Phoneography Challenge: Nature

Pink Beauty (5 of 1)

Good morning from a sunny Hastings day.  We are now into autumn but we are expecting temperatures in the high 20’s – celsius that is.

Another Monday – or for me Tuesday and that means it it time to show off our photos taken with our cell phones or other non camera devices.

My first two photos were taken at our Women’s Centre.  I had to wait to meet someone and was chatting about setting up a Social Snappers group when I spotted this potted plant.  So guess what I did – take photos of course.  I don’t know if they had even noticed.

The colour was so gorgeous.

Clouds (1 of 1)

These clouds were taken yesterday at our local supermarket.  The clouds were amazing.

Phoneography Challenge: A Rainy Morning

Delicate Touch of Rain

Good morning from a cool morning.  The sun is just starting to come up.  It is hard to work out what time it is when I wake up now.  It definitely is staying darker for longer in the mornings.  Autumn is definitely here.

It is the last day of March and it is challenger’s choice for Sally’s challenge at Lens and Pens by Sally.  This is when we use our non camera devices.  Even if I don’t have my camera on me I still have my iPhone 5S which has a good camera.

These photos were taken last Sunday.  I was totally bored, along with my parents at their stall at the school fair.  So I had both my phone and my camera with me so I took turns with them.  It rained heavily for about an hour or so and when the sun came out I used the phone to take these photos.  We had a plant stall next to us so I could take these photos without annoying anyone.

Phoneography Challenge: All creatures great and small.

Insect

Good morning from a cool Hastings day.

For this week’s challenge for Sally’s challenge at Lens and Pens by Sally it is the challengers choice.  So I have gone for both small as in this insect to birds in the sky at Port Ahuriri

Seagulls

This was the most successful of my attempts to take photos of seagulls in flight.

Abbey

Then there is Abbey and…

Socks (1 of 1)

Socks.

Everyone will have to wait for any photos of me going horse riding.  We just worked with ponies yesterday and learnt how to care for them.  I did take a couple of photos but was limited as only one person gave their permission to take their photos.  It was fun and the weather was great for us.  Thank goodness.

Cee’s Black and White Challenge: The Piper

The Piper

Good morning from a cool Hastings morning.  Autumn has hit us hard after the storm.

This week Cee at Cee’s Photography has asked for musical instruments, people, sheet music or audio devices for her black and white challenge this week. This was a hard one for me but then I remembered this photo from last year.  I always get goosebumps when I hear a lone piper.  This piper was shot during the ceremony to commemorate the 1931 earthquake.  He walked up the length of Heretaunga Street piping and people just stopped what they were doing to listen.  So it was an eerie silence with just the sounds of the pipes.

Please excuse the graininess. It was taken with my iPhone 5S and then heavily cropped.

Doorway to another world

Good morning from a dark and rainy Hastings morning. Yesterday was another nice day, hot and not much wind.  So again it was surreal knowing that today the weather is going to turn to custard.

It is scary to know that Civil Defence has been set up here in the Hawke’s Bay and up north in the Bay of Plenty and Gisborne. On our news websites there is a lot of information about coping with disasters.  Vanuatu has been badly hit with winds up to 340 km/hour.  It will be downgraded by the time it hits us but it will still be a rough couple of days.  As I am writing this just now the heavens has just opened up with very heavy rain.

Onto this challenge by Ailsa at Where’s my backpack?.  Her post yesterday was a touching tribute to the wonderful Terry Pratchett who died on Friday our time. So our prompt this week is anything fantastical or fantastic.

My photos were taken with my IPhone 5S at Pakowahi Park which was in itself a fantastical place to escape from the world and enjoy the native bush and listen to the birdsong. I had to resort to my phone after the camera’s battery died on me.

This first photo I found when I was walking through the trees and saw the sun hitting on a tree in the distance.  I rather like the affect the sun had on making the bush in the distance look like another world completely.

Spooky plant

Another spooky plant. I deliberately edited so that the plant seemed to glow.

Willow Reflections

Some surreal reflections.  I struggled with the colours in this one but then threw in the towel as we are into autumn so the leaves are starting to change colour and so I just went with it.

Fairies flying off

Finally a plant where the fairies are leaving home.

A Photo a Week: Brighten up your day

Sunny Amaryllis

The other day I had a very early dentist appointment.  It was in Havelock North, just to the east of Hastings.  It is only 15 minutes to drive there.  I don’t normally drive around Havelock North.  I left home with plenty of time.  Or so I thought.  I got lost.  I stopped several times to google where the dentist is.  I got even more lost.  So I went back to the centre of the township and finally found the right road, after driving through a supermarket car park.  Needless to say I wasn’t happy with myself.  Then I got told that I would need to pay out nearly $800 for a tooth implant. (hopefully the rest of it will be subsidised).  So I was not a happy chappy.

Then I saw these cream coloured amaryllis in the sun.  So the cell phone came out.  I have noticed that the sun is getting lower and lower in the sky.  So it makes for a lot of great affects with back lighting.

There was also a tub of cream coloured petunias.

Sunny Petunias

Again backlit.  My day was much brighter for seeing this, and for no-one stopping me from taking these photos.

Perfect for Nancy at nancy merrill photography and her prompt this week.

Phoneography Challenge: Macro

Macro Amaryllis-

Good morning from a grey looking Hastings.

Another week has gone and it is time for another colourful post with my camera for Lens and Pens by Sally‘s challenge. My mother just loves amaryllis plants and buys them for inside the house when they are in full bloom and then plants them outside.  This is one of them.  These were such a show in March when they were blooming.  Every time I visit them either the camera or the phone comes out and I always wander around taking photos.

This challenge is for all non camera devices – so for phones etc.  These were taken with my iPhone 5S. For more information check out Sally’s blog
