Phoneography Challenge: Nature

Greensleeves 1 (1 of 1)

Greensleeves (1 of 1)

Good morning from a balmy sunny day here in Hastings.  I have already been out to take photos of our awesome sunrise.  I have also notice the leaves starting to change colour.  As of the 1st March we are officially into autumn.  But mother nature has forgotten to switch of the heater.  On Sunday we had the highest temperature in the country – 30 degrees celsius and yesterday was 28, today we are forecast to have the same.  So we will enjoy this Indian summer.  I wouldn’t mind if we continue to have such awesome sunrises – will post tomorrow.

I have managed to work out what was wrong with my computer but will explain it all in my other post as it is more relevant there.

So onto this challenge by Sally.  This is to showcase what our non digital camera devices can do.  Samsung have announced their new phones yesterday.  Among the upgrades are new camera specs.  That should be interesting for those who are into Samsung.  Me, these photos were taken with my iPhone 5S.  I have used some of the photos taken at this time for my 5 day black and white challenge.  This time though, I have edited them with Lightroom.  I wanted the leaves sharp and to pop out.  Let me know what you think.

Phoneography Challenge: Nature

Double Delight in full glory (606x800)

Good morning from another grey and wet Hastings.

So to brighten up my day and everyone else’s here is a bright cheery photo of the double delight rose – yet again.  I know I have posted a lot of photos of these roses, but I just love them.

For more info on this challenge here is Sally’s link:

Phoneography: Black and White at Ahuriri

IMG_1013 (800x605)

Good morning from a cold and cloudy Hastings.  We should be in summer but it feels like winter.  I wish I could send some of this cooler weather to South Africa as I know they are sweltering and are having to endure power cuts.

I am madly beading at the moment for this weekend.  I didn’t realise just how much I will be beading.  Needless to say I don’t want to see another bead for quite some time after I have finished it.  Even The X Files isn’t doing the job in keeping me going.  My dress is getting heavy but it looks good.

So onto this challenge by Sally where we get to use our phones for photos.  These photos were taken at Ahuriri beach, looking the other way from the port.  I am not sure what these old wooden posts were. Probably an old pier.

I wanted to be a bit more serious this week with my black and white so only did minimal editing with Snapseed.

Cee’s Oddball Challenge: Some Moonshine

Moonshine

Good morning from a cool but sunny Hastings morning.

Yesterday I helped my parents with their stand at the Clive fair and car show.  It was freezing for being in February and we had some rain.  Luckily I had checked the weather forecast and had dressed in warm clothes.  I would not have won any fashion contests, but I was warm.  I think the cold kept people indoors and it was a very low key event and for once my father didn’t sell much.

Today my son starts his course at the local community college (for those in America) and I wish him all the best.  He is nervous about it but will soon settle in.

Yesterday when it was quiet I would wander around the stands with my cell phone.  I get itchy fingers when I see so much I want to take photos of.  I had a laugh when I saw this sign for moonshine.    I think it was just some fruit or vegetable juice.  But those bottles don’t look good. Ah, I thought.  Great for Cee’s challenge this week.

Phoneography Challenge: Macro

Morning glory macro (488x640)

Good morning from a cool and cloudy Hastings morning.  Yesterday we hit 33 degrees and had the highest temperature in the country.  Phew.  It was so bad for me – this house is rather cool with all the windows open.

Anyway onto this challenge by Sally.

https://lensandpensbysally.wordpress.com/2015/02/09/phoneography-and-non-slr-digital-devices-photo-challenge-macro-and-a-single-flower/

I have gone for a sci fi look about my photos today.  When I did the editing on this last night on Snapseed I was thinking about The X Files which is what these photos remind me of.  While I have been beading madly I have been watching this series from the beginning – I am now up to series 2 episode 14 I think.  Anyway these photos somehow remind me of the opening graphics.  Sort of.

Phoneography: Natures colours

Good morning from a windy and hot Hastings.  We had some rain yesterday but it only made everything more humid and uncomfortable.  Even during the night.

So I decided to do a post of cheerful colours for Sally’s challenge. This is also to cheer up those snowed under.  Our days here are getting shorter, yours are now getting longer.  I saw that the groundhog has predicted another 6 weeks of winter.  so just enjoy the colours.

https://lensandpensbysally.wordpress.com/2015/02/02/phoneography-and-non-slr-digital-devices-photo-challenge-nature-in-black-and-white-and-creative-tension/

These photos were taken last October when my mother’s garden was in full colour for spring.  Now everything is dry and a fire hazard.  No colour left.

I have edited them on my computer with Photoscape and Fotor to enhance the colours.

Black and White Challenge: Day 2

IMG_0971 (488x640)

Day 2 of this challenge.  Yesterday I had the simplicity of the one branch of leaves.  So today I have the whole tree.  I found it interesting how the  leaves get larger towards the top of the photo.

Today I would like to nominate Amy at

 https://shareandconnect.wordpress.com/about/.

Her photos are amazing.

So Amy should you accept this challenge you just need to post a black and white photo every day for 5 days and nominate a person each day.  If you can’t manage it then that is fine.

Thanks for visiting.

Black and White Challenge

IMG_0972 (640x484)

Here is a new challenge for me.  Thanks to Meg for nominating me:

https://movethechair.wordpress.com/2015/01/29/bw-challenge-day-1/

Her work is amazing and I love the way she uses textures.

So last night I played around on my iPad.  So here is my first image.  This was taken with my iPhone at my old rental.  It was fun trying to isolate the leaves from the background. Edited with Snapseed and Aviary.  To be honest Black and White is my first real love in photography but I really don’t do enough of it.  For me there can be more ambiance and atmosphere with the monotone that is missing in colour images.  But then again I love colour to.

For this challenge we are to post a B & W image every day for 5 days and nominate another blogger.  If you don’t want to participate that is ok.   So I nominate Woolly Muses to take up this challenge.  I am loving the direction his work is going.

Thanks for visiting.  Must dash – have a breakfast with friends this morning.  Will catch up with everyone when I get home.

One Word Photo: Beige – A fight over some bread.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Good morning from a sort of sunny Hastings.

I was disappointed when I moved into this house that there was no garden.  But there is an abundance of bird life and cats.  I was entertained yesterday after I threw out some bread for the birds. (The beige) and it was very noisy.  Some mynah birds were fighting with the sparrows for the bread.  Then this black cat saw an opportunity to have an extra feast.  But he left empty handed or should I say empty pawed.

The quality isn’t so good as I used my cell phone. But I thought a slideshow would be fun with this.  A bit of action so to speak.

Another piece of useless information.  In the 80’s, after one day international cricket was introduced the New Zealand cricket team had beige uniforms.  With their long hair and moustaches they had quite a following.  This following has continued and the fans still wear their beige supporters shirts and even have their own website:

A Word a Week: Rainbow

IMG_6636 (640x482)

I was just going through my reader and found that Sue has chosen the word ‘rainbow’ this week.

This photo was taken with my phone a couple of days after we had moved in to our new home.  Just before a massive thunderstorm.
