Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Bark or leaves

Leaves 3 (506x640)

I seem to have posted a lot of photos of leaves lately, with all the prompts about autumn.  So here are some more for Cee’s challenge.

Travel Theme: Autumn

Autumn Reflections 4 (640x622)

Good morning from a beautiful sunny Hastings day.  The winds are predicted  to pick up and bring some warm weather to us – up to 26 degrees celsius.  My irises are really coming out now and the birds are out in full force serenading me.

So it seems strange to have to trawl through my archives to find yet more autumn photos.  I have seen some amazing photos.  In particular Marilyn at Serendipity.  Both Marilyn and her husband took a road trip recently through Maine and the photos are just mind blowing.

So here is my contribution to the Travel Theme this week.  Taken last May with my iPhone 5S.

Autumn Reflections. 1 (640x622)

As usual I couldn’t resist some reflections.

Autumn Lights 6 (640x622)

I also love the light showing through the red leaves.

Sunday Stills Challenge:Fall Foliage

270 (640x470)

Ed has paid homage to the fall colours in the Northern hemisphere with his challenge this week.

I have already post a lot of autumn photos so it was a challenge to come up with something new.

IMG_4551 (506x640)

Actually we don’t call it fall here.  It is autumn.  But we use fall in this little rhyme:

We leap forward into spring,

We fall back into autumn.

A little poem to remind us which way to change the clock – one hour forward into spring and one hour backwards into autumn.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Vibrant colours

DSCF0468 (640x480)

Good morning from a grey Hastings morning.

This week Cee has given us the challenge to find vibrant photos.  That is easy for me as I love strong colours.  That said my post of pastel roses was popular.

Searching through a memory stick I found this top photo.  It hasn’t been edited.

vibrant 1 (640x480)

We have a very strong colour here in New Zealand which does make the colours more vibrant.  I came home from shopping yesterday and noticed how the light was filtering through these new leaves.  It seemed only yesterday there were bare branches and overnight it sprouted new life.

Then there are the last of the tulips.

vibrant 2 (537x640)

I just dumped my groceries and grabbed the camera to make the most of the strong light.

A Word a Week: Chilled

IMG_0353 (640x473)

Good morning from another grey Hastings morning.  I hope it will warm up.  Spring is hard – one day we had 24 degrees celsius and then the next day it is only 14.  Roll on summer (sorry for those in the northern hemisphere).

This week Sue has dipped into her dictionary and has come up with the word chilled.

These photos were taken during the autumn last year.  It was a very frosty morning as you can see.

I love the textures of the frost on the leaves.

Here is Sue’s post to check out this challenge and then a couple of other awesome posts.

Sunday Stills: Abandoned

Abandoned leaves

I loved the photo Ed has chosen for his challenge this week.

So I searched through my photos and found these abandoned leaves on a wet day.

One Word Photo Challenge: Carmine

DSCF4367 (640x480)

Finding photos to match up with a specific colour is not as easy as you think.

This week the challenge from Jennifer is carmine. A specific shade of red.  Leaning towards burgundy.  I love this colour and tend to wear it a lot.  So here are some photos that hopefully show some of this colour.

Travel Theme: Twist

Twisted leaf

Good morning  from a mild Hastings. The wind has died down but it is supposed to be really cold today. Will see.

This week the challenge from  Ailsa is to show ‘twist’.  I had to think about this one and spent some time searching through my photos to find this one.  I took it last winter at Pakowhai Park.  I love the twisted textures of this leaf, along with the colours.  It is only just hanging in there.

Gaudiesque Reflection

The Daily Post: Between

IMG_3908 (496x640)

Good morning from another cold and frosty Hastings.

This morning the prompt from The Daily Post is between.

Between. Capture something in the middle of two things. It can be a person or object, or simply the space in between. It can also be a feeling or relationship — a bond that connects people, or a space that separates. This word might also reflect a choice you need to make — the challenge of choosing one thing over another — or any kind of transition, from childhood to adulthood, single life to married life, day to night.

I had to think hard about this one.  At the moment I am between lives – a married life and a single life.  I can’t move on really  until my settlement is sorted out and I am really divorced.  Plus you can’t get divorced for 2 years in New Zealand.  I can’t get the song by Helen Readdy out of my head – “I can do anything, I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman”.

I couldn’t find any photos to really represent that.  But I did find these ones.

When I am out walking I am fascinated by the way the strong light here in New Zealand shines between branches and leaves and highlights some leaves, but not others.  With the autumn colours it is amazing.

I guess these photos show that even when it seems bleak some light will always manage to squeeze between the dark times to give us hope.

Green leaves

Droplets 1 (640x489)

Good morning from a cold Hastings – only 3 degrees this morning.

Even though I haven’t been able to get out much for photos I still take photos around the house.  These two photos were taken the other day after the rain had stopped.

Then the other night I thought I would explore Photoscape a bit more with it’s filters and this is what I ended up with.

Droplets (640x484)

A lot more dramatic than the original images.

Back lit leaves (640x483)

Then I found this photo taken on the first day here.  I liked the way the filters really defined the leaves.

An update to what is happening in my life.  I have just received confirmation of legal aid so it is game on. I am doing ok but  will take a bit to get over it all emotionally and physically but I will get over it all. So once again thanks for all your support.
