Phoneography: Challenger’s Choice – A Cat Showdown

Ginger Cat alone-598

Good morning from a warm soggy Hastings day.  Our country got a bit battered last night – lots of wind and rain for us.  We got the same storm that hit Sydney on Sunday.  We were okay here in Hastings but Wellington and Auckland got hard hit.  So thinking of you today.

Last week, after coming home from the park I was uploading my photos and recharging my camera when I noticed this cat just sitting watching my house.  This is weird as I am constantly finding cats either sitting or lying around in just this particular area.  I don’t know why, it is just that one spot.  I adore cats, one is either a cat person or a dog person.  I am most definitely a cat person and seem to attract stray cats.  They seem to sense a cat lover a mile off.

Anyway I grabbed my cell phone and took these photos.

Ginger Cat + grey cat-600

As I was watching from inside another cat came creeping past.  Very carefully.  Very carefully.

Ginger Cat + grey cat-606

The grey cat was literally tip toeing past the ginger cat.  The ginger cat didn’t even budge.

Grey Cat Alone-607

The grey cat then walked off.

It was fascinating watching this stand off.

Phoneopgraphy Challenge: Macro

Red Trumpet

Good morning from a chilly Hastings day.  Winter has arrived in New Zealand.  Yesterday we had a lot of rain, but also sunshine but it never really warmed up.  The South Island is covered in snow. Today we are expected to be cold.  So yesterday I made a point of buying matches and a little bit of firewood as we have absolutely no form of heating at all.  Only a woodburner.  Last year we had a heat pump as well as a wood pellet fire which was a lot more economical.

So for Sally’s challenge at Lens and Pens by Sally I have gone for some bright fiery colours of this flower that was creeping over the fence.

Phoneography Challenge: Macro

Macro Amaryllis-

Good morning from a grey looking Hastings.

Another week has gone and it is time for another colourful post with my camera for Lens and Pens by Sally‘s challenge. My mother just loves amaryllis plants and buys them for inside the house when they are in full bloom and then plants them outside.  This is one of them.  These were such a show in March when they were blooming.  Every time I visit them either the camera or the phone comes out and I always wander around taking photos.

This challenge is for all non camera devices – so for phones etc.  These were taken with my iPhone 5S. For more information check out Sally’s blog

Phoneography Challenge: Nature

Greensleeves 1 (1 of 1)

Greensleeves (1 of 1)

Good morning from a balmy sunny day here in Hastings.  I have already been out to take photos of our awesome sunrise.  I have also notice the leaves starting to change colour.  As of the 1st March we are officially into autumn.  But mother nature has forgotten to switch of the heater.  On Sunday we had the highest temperature in the country – 30 degrees celsius and yesterday was 28, today we are forecast to have the same.  So we will enjoy this Indian summer.  I wouldn’t mind if we continue to have such awesome sunrises – will post tomorrow.

I have managed to work out what was wrong with my computer but will explain it all in my other post as it is more relevant there.

So onto this challenge by Sally.  This is to showcase what our non digital camera devices can do.  Samsung have announced their new phones yesterday.  Among the upgrades are new camera specs.  That should be interesting for those who are into Samsung.  Me, these photos were taken with my iPhone 5S.  I have used some of the photos taken at this time for my 5 day black and white challenge.  This time though, I have edited them with Lightroom.  I wanted the leaves sharp and to pop out.  Let me know what you think.

Phoneography Challenge: Challengers Choice: Art Deco Memories

Art Deco 5

Good morning from another sunny Hastings day. Yesterday we reached 27 degrees celsius so we are now well into summer, even though it doesn’t officially start until 1st December.  The birds are really focal this morning, enjoying the sun.

Take care all those affected by the winter storms in the north.  It is strange when we are so warm here you are so cold.

This week I have gone for a nostalgic look at the Art Deco weekend a couple of years ago.  So I went to Photoshop Express for the memory filter and then used an antique frame to give them a really old look about the photos to give the impression that they are genuine photos from the 1930’s.

The only thing that gives these photos away are some of the clothing and new buildings.

Phoneography Challenge: Macro – Finishing my Quilt

hand quilting (640x476)

Good morning from a lovely sunny morning.  It is finally warming up now after winter had returned last week

So, another week has gone by and it is time for my phone challenge.  This week we get to showcase our macro photos.

But no editing today.  A couple of weeks ago I posted about my bucket list and top of the list was this quilt.  Or should I say quilt pieces.  Well for a week I was on a mission to finish it.  It helped to get over the tiredness a bit as I could see that I was really going somewhere with it.  That always help when you can see the end in sight.

So I did things my way, as I do and hand stitched the borders, and then hand quilted them.  I found it to be very heavy so it was easier on me to hand quilt it.

trimming the quilt (501x640)

Then it was trimmed.  Ok, a couple of photos in this post aren’t exactly macro.  I had taken these photos for Instagram to show my progress.

finishing touches (501x640)

Then it was hand stitching the binding.  I am not sure I like looking at my fingers so close up.  A bit freaky.

And voila:

Finished quilt (501x640)

One finished quilt.

Every time I look at it I feel really proud of myself.  It is not perfect, but I did it all.  I would rather think of it as naive.  I started it to learn new techniques and that as I went on with it I would hopefully improve.  I meant to do it all by hand.  That went out the window for the last 4 blocks where I went to the sewing machine.  This is based on an antique quilt with the designs, so I figure that the sewing machines arrived in the mid 1800’s so I could say it was progression in technology.

Phoneography Challenge: Nature

Hyacinth

Good morning from a warmer and calmer day.  Yesterday was very stormy all over the North Island.  We had a lot of heavy wind and rain again and a small earthquake in the afternoon as well which I didn’t feel, so it can’t have been a big one.  Auckland still has no power so I could well say it was a black Monday all around.

So onto something to take our minds of the weather.  Blooms always cheers me up.

It is the first Monday of the month which means it is all about our nature for Sally’s challenge:’

http://lensandpensbysally.wordpress.com/2014/10/06/phoneography-and-non-slr-digital-photo-challenge-nature-her-softer-palette/

I take a lot of photos of flowers as you know and love to play around with the editing.  I have already used this first image on another post,  but wasn’t so keen on the editing so I had another go on my iPad with Tangled FX and I think I prefer this image.

Here is another Tangled FX image.

IMG_0297 (640x466)

This was just edited with Photoshop Express.

I have also used this image before but couldn’t resist added a border to it to focus just on the bluebells.
