ABFriday – One photo Focus – Cee’s Photo

Cee's Photo (1 of 1)

This month the photo we were given for this challenge from Cee at Cee’s Photography.  She held a poll to see which one we would like to edit.  The majority went for this photo:

cee-neuner-april-one-photo-focus

So firstly I went to GIMP and added a cartoon filter to define the edges of the green foliage on the tree.

Then I went to Photoscape and cropped it.  I played around with some of their preset filters and came up with this painted look.  It was too harsh so I then went to Lightroom and decreased the clarity just to soften the edges of the building which gave it a more painted look.

It  is hosted by Stacy at Visual Venturing if you want to join this challenge:

One Four Challenge: February Week 2

Dandelion Week 2 (484x640)

My second week photo for this challenge.  Thank you everyone for your helpful comments last week on how to get rid of the bleached overexposed area.

I have tried with both GIMP and Photoscape to correct this problem.  All it did was darken the background. So here is a slide show of the two edits so far. Any further constructive criticism and advise is welcome.  I don’t have Photoshop or Lightroom,  Just the two photo editing programmes I have mentioned along with Fotor which is really only preset filters.

Snap & Zap: Reflections.

Reflections (640x466)

I must have known about this challenge last night as I spent some time playing with my apps on my iPad.  I have a lot of photos of reflections.  Some are really bizarre as they are taken down at Cornwall Park.

I just wanted to see where I could take this one.

Reflection - Photoshop

I went to Photoshop Express and saturated it with a vibrant filter.

Reflections FX Distressed

Then I headed to FX Distressed which added some texture.

Reflections Ansel AffectFor my final image I used the ansel filter.

Actually I must make a confession.  I can’t remember what filters I used.  It was just fun to see where I went.

Gothic original (640x466)

Then I went for a gothic look.  This is the original image.

Gothic artworks (640x466)

Here I tried to find my inner artist with the ArtWorks comic filter. It didn’t end up exactly how I wanted.

Gothic Photoscape (640x466)

So I headed to Photoscape and used one of their filters.  It blurred the edges a bit.

Reflections Tangles FX (640x467)

Then my favourite.  Tangled FX.  Such an interesting spooky affect.

For each Snap & Zap I will suggest a new theme so take a new photo or use an existing photo and edit it with any software you like, so…

  1. Create a new post showing the original
  2. What edits have you made?
  3. What software/techniques have you used?
  4. Link back to the current week’s page

The theme for this “Snap & Zap…” is Reflections.

This is a great challenge to try out new filters and generally just to have fun.  I get a bit carried away and forgot to write down the filters I used.  Too much to think about when the creative juices are working.

One Four Challenge: Week 1

On four challenge (640x579)

This is a new challenge for me.  Just up my alley actually as I love to edit.

So this is week one.  I added the cartoon filter from GIMP and cropped the image to frame the flowers.  At the end of the month I will post all four images with the original.

Once you see this post – you have until the following Sunday ( Aussie time – currently GMT +11 hours ) to create your own challenge post.  Include a link in your post to this blog post. This will create a ping back (link) from WP blogs.
You are also very welcome to leave a comment on my blog with your post link for the week.

Please make sure that your Nov 1 post is linked to my Nov 1 post etc… so that we are linking to the same week.

Cee’s Oddball Photo Challenge: Week 36

Oddball 3.11.2014 (640x446)

Good morning from a grey and very windy Hastings day.  Yesterday it got up to 28 degrees celsius and was very stifling.  It is very early to have such high temperatures.

So it is Monday again which means it is time for some fun with oddball photos.  Last week I was working on my laptop at the table when I happened to glance out the windows and noticed how the sun highlighted this peg thingy.  We have a covered veranda with a clothes line on it.  I have heard from another blogger how you can’t hang washing outside to dry.  I don’t own a dryer as 1) I can’t afford it and 2) they are expensive to run.  This area is great as I can hang clothes out all year round and not even get wet.

So for this photo I had some fun editing.  It is hard to be limited to what I have on this Windows laptop.  First I used GIMP and then Photoscape for some extras such as the sun in the top left corner.

The Daily Post: Split Second Story

112

Good morning from a cool but dry Hastings.

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_photo_challenge/split-second-story/

The prompt this morning is telling a split second story.  Last month while I was walking through Cornwall Park I noticed some people doing Tai Chi in the park.  What a place to do it.  So peaceful and serene.

113

There were people of all ages.

It has been hard trying to find a decent photo editor for my photos that are free.  I found a great free one Photoscape which is also available for Macs as well.

An update on how I am doing.  I have finally got some financial assistance after having a meltdown yesterday.  I think I am doing well but then I find things just get on top of me and I just go all weepy.  I am happy that I am out of my bad marriage but it is not easy being on my own again.

Today it is sunny so I told my daughter that we should go out on  a photo shoot just to be more positive.  Taking photos always makes me feel better.

I have gone to Givealittle.co.nz

https://www.givealittle.co.nz/cause/Startuphelp

to see if I could get some help with paying my credit card bill.  I can’t expect any settlement from my ex for some while.  He found out about the credit card and I could tell from the tone of his voice that he is incredibly angry.  It is his fault.  I have to live.  I hope I can get something to at least pay some of the bill and to replace my computer.

My lawyer has contacted his lawyer and asked for evaluations of his cars which will not go down well.

Will keep everyone posted.

Thanks for visiting and all your support.
