One Word Photo Challenge: Ants

Ants-

Good morning from a cool and cloudy spring day here in Hastings.

Jennifer from Jennifer Nichole Wells jennifernicholewells.com has finished with her weather series.  Now we are onto People, Places and Things.

First up is ants.  Well I searched high and low, thinking I had some photos of ants on flowers.  After some time I came across this image.  I am sure I have some more somewhere.

Looking up from a ant's view-

Then I thought I would show a photo looking up into the foliage – just to get an ant’s view of looking up.

WPC: An Inspiring Day

An Inspiring DAy-022

Good morning from a very cold and frosty morning. The sun is up now so the internet connection has thawed out.

What is your inspiration? What moves you? What is it that never fails to motivate you, to get you going, or make you happy? It could be the bench in a quiet section of the park where you go to center yourself. Maybe it’s a favorite piece of music or book passage that boosts your enthusiasm. Or, maybe it’s the face of the love of your life, a treasured memento, or the unconditional love you see in the eyes of your pet.

This morning  has asked us for photos of what inspires us.  There are so many things that inspire me so here is my day.

An Inspiring DAy-019

When I get up in the morning the first thing I do is look at the sky.  I have been known to run out in my PJ’s with my camera to capture the morning skies.  Some have been totally awesome.

An Inspiring DAy-042

I am always looking around me for new photo opportunities.  Cats are another favourite.  We have so many that come to visit me.

An Inspiring DAy-5691

Nature is always inspiring and ever changing.

An Inspiring DAy-5697

Bugs and butterflies are always inspiring.

Stretching the wings (1 of 1)

Especially as they are in decline.

Our feathered friends and their birdsong is beautiful and inspiring to the soul.

An Inspiring DAy-096

At the end of the day sunsets can be so colourful and an awesome way to end the day.

An Inspiring DAy-036

And then the moon comes up.

An Inspiring DAy-052

There are so many things around me that inspires me to pick up my camera and take photos.

Phoneography Challenge: A Rainy Morning

Delicate Touch of Rain

Good morning from a cool morning.  The sun is just starting to come up.  It is hard to work out what time it is when I wake up now.  It definitely is staying darker for longer in the mornings.  Autumn is definitely here.

It is the last day of March and it is challenger’s choice for Sally’s challenge at Lens and Pens by Sally.  This is when we use our non camera devices.  Even if I don’t have my camera on me I still have my iPhone 5S which has a good camera.

These photos were taken last Sunday.  I was totally bored, along with my parents at their stall at the school fair.  So I had both my phone and my camera with me so I took turns with them.  It rained heavily for about an hour or so and when the sun came out I used the phone to take these photos.  We had a plant stall next to us so I could take these photos without annoying anyone.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Found in nature.

DSCF9589

Good morning from a sunny Hastings morning.  A relief for us that the wind and rain have gone but it has been harder for others north and south of us here.  So keep safe, warm, dry or cool where ever everyone is.

So this is Cee’s Photography‘s fun foot challenge.  Found in nature.  That is what my photography is about.  The beauty around us.  I am a bit reticent about taking photos of people and generally ask about using their images online.  Some people object but nature never does.

I tried to get different photos for this challenge, not jus the usual butterflies, but interesting items found in nature.

I have no idea what plant this.

DSCF4887

Nor this.

DSCF9590

This was in my mothers little garden.

This I do know – a lily.

I love cobwebs and faeries.  My family thought I was nuts taking this photo.

Here are a couple of great blogs to check out as well.

Mandarin Orange Monday/77

DSCF7891

DSCF7888

Good morning from an overcast Hastings morning.

Today is Monday so time for LorikArt‘s challenge. I loved her post this week which you can find here:

http://lorikart.com/2014/01/19/mandarin-orange-monday-77/

I also was totally impressed by lady sighs post for http://sonelscornerphotochallenge.wordpress.com.

http://ladysighs.wordpress.com/2013/12/27/sonels-photo-editing-challenge-nature/

So I thought I would have a go with these two photos.  I can’t show you what I did as my blog crashed when I uploaded the photos for some strange reason.  I can tell you that I used Photoshop for editing the photos into the orange colour.  I used a couple of the filters – poster edges and fresco.  Then it was over to GIMP for a tweak with the cartoon filter before I used the paper curl filter to do the final image.  It took me a bit to work out that I could actually load two images together to get the layers.  But here is the final result.  At least that wasn’t corrupt.

DSCF7888 poster edges + film grain + gradient map.jpg = GIMP.jpg final image

I hope lady sighs doesn’t mind, but I was totally wowed by her post.  For me it was more of learning about different editing programmes and to stretch my mind.

Thanks for visiting.

Good evening from a warm Hastings Evening. I hope everyone up north are keeping warm and safe with your storms.  Brave men playing football in minus temperatures.

Anyway  these are my original images.  I have lots of photos of reflections so the other day on my walk I decided to take some more photos of shadows.

First stop was GIMP to add some texture and details with the canvas and cartoon filters.

Then it was over to FX Photostudio Pro to add some vignettes  and vintage filters.
