Weekly Pet Share: A Friendly Sparrow

A Friendly Sparrow-086

Good morning from a cool but sunny Hastings day.

We are slowly heading into spring.  Officially it is spring next Tuesday. This means that our bird life is getting very active.  And very vocal.  I love waking up to the sound of the bird song and then, in the evenings they are very loud again. I have noticed a lot of birds flying around with bits of grass and sticks in their beaks.

But why is it, that whenever I grab my camera they all fly off?

Michelle’s Weekly Pet Challenge: Week 40 – Feathered friends at the park

DSCF4120 (640x628)

Good morning from a very wet and battered Hastings.  We had some heavy rain last night with winds but nothing compared to Auckland. I have just watched the news and it was very bad there overnight, with power lines knocked down and trucks knocked over. I am thinking of you guys up there.

Today I thought I would show some of my feathered friends at Cornwall Park.

First up is our native fantail.  I am getting very frustrated with my camera which doesn’t want to focus,  especially on maximum zoom.  This was the best photo of them all with heavy cropping.

There are plenty of sparrows.

And blackbirds.

And of course ducks.

Good evening from a warm Hastings Evening. I hope everyone up north are keeping warm and safe with your storms.  Brave men playing football in minus temperatures.

Anyway  these are my original images.  I have lots of photos of reflections so the other day on my walk I decided to take some more photos of shadows.

First stop was GIMP to add some texture and details with the canvas and cartoon filters.

Then it was over to FX Photostudio Pro to add some vignettes  and vintage filters.

Good morning from a cool but sunny Hastings.  Hopefully the stormy weather is over and warmer weather comes back.

Yesterday was a strange day with showers on and off all day.  It was odd hanging out my washing with drops of rain falling.  I got it dry though.  So I didn’t get to go for a walk but I got out around the garden for a few photos.  This one is my favourite.

Just as I turned around I noticed this sparrow on the clothes line so only just managed to get this photo before it flew off.

I love the way the trellis frames these flowers – daisy or margaritas – someone please tell me if I am wrong.

These are just about past their best now but I loved the way they were so close together.

The grapes are starting to grow.  I have taken lots of photos just of the leaves as there is so much texture in them.

These astroemerias are just lovely.  I had to google for the spelling of these.  I thought at the beginning that these were lilies but now know that they are not.  No I am not going to spell it again.  They are really coming into their own.

Socrates - friendship

This is what I did last night with these flowers for my Words of Inspiration blog.  These flowers represent friendship, commitment and care for one another so I chose a quote from Socrates which I felt went with the meaning.  The font is Herculanum – an ancient latin font perfect for Socrates.

So you don’t have to go far for some good photos.

Cheers and have a nice day.
