Cee’s Black & White Challenge: In the Garden

Black and white roses (481x640)

Cee has given us an open topic for her challenge this week.  So I have gone for what I have found in my garden the past month.

And no spiders were killed in the shooting of these photos.  Actually I sat inside at the dining room table and just zoomed in on them.

Sunday Stills: Depth of Field

Depth of Field 3 (497x640) (2)

Here is my entry for Ed’s challenge at Sunday Stills.

There is a large spider web in my garden and I have been watching it and guarding it to take photos of it.

I have tried to spray it with water to show up.

The Daily Post: minimalist

Good morning from a rather chilly Hastings morning.  It must have reached down to zero last night as this morning I heard the drone of helicopters over the orchards and vineyards again.  We are well into Spring, nearly summer.  This weather is going crazy.

Anyway the prompt from The Daily Post is minimalist –

Minimalist photography is characterized by a large portion of negative space, a fairly monochromatic color palette with good contrast, and an interesting subject that is able to stand on its own to capture the interest of the viewer. At first thought, it may seem like it would be easy to shoot an engaging minimalist photograph, when indeed it can often be the opposite. A minimalist photo can also effectively tell a story, in spite of its relative simplicity, and it is anything but “plain”.

This meant for me, keeping my editing to a minimum.  This next photo was cropped and tweaked slightly to get rid of the annoying background.  That is all.

The Daily Post: Endurance

Good morning from a sunny spring morning here in Hastings.

This week the Daily Post has issued us with the challenge to show us all endurance.

I chose this photo which shows just how strong the spider webs are.  They endure strong winds, rains and heavy fogs as in this photo and also the bugs, bees and flies that get caught up in it and fight to get out of it.

Actually that is rather apt for today.  We have our general election and we have had to endure 6 weeks of political campaigning.  It has turned really nasty with personal grievances taking over the actual politics.  To be honest I have had enough and today couldn’t come fast enough.  The polling booth is just down the road  and I will be casting my vote.  It will not bring a majority government thanks to our MMP system so we are in for another 3 years of more scrappy government.

Anyway here are some other great posts for this challenge.

Good morning from a drier and calmer Hastings.

Yesterday I made the most of the golden hour of light.  It was incredible.  At the moment it is a real golden light and showed up the red and browns of our autumn.

These photos were taken at our fence, looking up into the sun.  The colours really struck me when I looked out the window so I raced inside for the camera.  At first I didn’t notice the cobwebs but then when I looked through the viewfinder I discovered them.  They really stood out with the light.

I thought of editing them but I wanted the natural colour to stay and just added a frame.

Here are some other great posts.
